Greetings and thank you for taking the time to read this.
I've recently decided to give scanning and hidden deadspace complexes a try, as something alternate to do alone then the same old missions. As such I'm rather new to all of this but I have picked up the basics and some of the required skills already (though not all yet)
Wich brings me to the issue at hand I currently seem to have whilst on exploration. On my last voyage I found a system with a deadspace signature in it, one with an extremely low signature strength however. I haven't ran into any trouble finding such sites up til now, however this one seems to elude me.
What I'm wondering is, can repeated scanning eventually yield scans with better accuracy or will I keep getting (and I already rarely do get one) very inaccurate readings? If I remember right the scan strength must have been 0,02 or something.
I might simply need more types of probes since now I've only been using quests and combs (can't use sifts yet) but nevertheles Im wondering it's worth it to keep scanning even if I did get some signals once in a while with only poor accuracy.
Oh also is the difficulty of the deadspace I'm scanning down related to the difficulty to scan it down? Otherwise I could just forget about it and search another system for signatures that may yield the same results.
Any advice would be appreciated

Every scan in a series has the same chance of finding the signature, as far as we know.
I strongly suggest getting Sifts; actually pinpointing the signatures will be very hard with Combs. However, as far as the initial detection goes, Quests are the best you can get.
The difficulty of the deadspace seems to be vaguely related to the difficulty of the scan, yes. However, it depends on distance from the probe as well, especially for Quests; if you find a signal with very low strength that is nearly outside the probe's range, you can't really make any conclusions about its difficulty. However, a difficult to detect signature that turns out to be near the probe is probably fairly tough.
Also, you may want to evaluate your probe placement. The site *could* be easy to find but not within your probing range. |

If the site has a strength of 0.02 that means that you have approximately a 2% chance of getting a hit each time you scan. Once you get a hit you can use a stronger probe with a shorter range (sifts (0.5au) > combs (1au) > pursuit (2au)> quest (4au)). This will result in a stronger signal, with a higher chance of finding the site.
As mentioned by the previous poster, the ability of a probe to find a signal diminishes as the distance from the probe to the site increases. Quests really struggle to find sites out at their 4au limit. However if this site isn't ridiculously far away from your probe then you are probably screwed. This is because hard to find sites have high deviation which means that when you get a hit the hit will be quite far from the actual site.
In practice this means that you need sifts and a pinpointing skill of 3 (maybe 4) to actually get a warp to point on the hard to find sites. With a pinpointing of 2 and sifts you'll stall out at about 1000km from the site (although you can manually get there eventually if you're clever/persistant). With combs you wont.
So, imho, you should move on until you get sifts. |

Thanks much for the replies, it's clear I'll have to wait until I can use sift probes to track down these hard to find signatures.
I've been able to find them within 70k km now, so it's ideal for those sift ones. I'll simply carry on and find the easier for now until I get my astrometric to lvl 4. |

how do u start with probing this anomalies? Putting probes onto planets or where? |

Of course I put them at planets, where else would I place them else
Of course I do put probes are the occasional bookmark I make to get that one probe fit in just to cover all the inner planets by bookmarking while in warp.
In any case astrometric IV is almost finished, soon I'll have sift probes
