While at work I'd ideally like to be able to do some mining though restricted by a proxy server limited to: 80, 8080, 443 and 21.
Is there anything I can set the proxy server and force it out through a specific port?
Fingers Crossed.

I know it would be possible if I could just tunnel out through 80. :)

The very fact that your workplace has spent the resources to construct a proxy server and then block all but a handful of ports suggests that they would be less than pleased if you wasted their time playing a game.
On another note, players have been known to lose ships to belt rats because work or school distracted them. It would not be a good idea even if it were possible.

We'll I'm the IT Technician for this place and its an external proxy server from us. They don't mind what goes through but I have to make change requests to open the ports needed which I don't want to have to do.

Least difficult way would be to setup a VPN to your home network and run the game there.
Second least difficult would be setting up an SSH tunnel through your home network (or another external host running an SSH server).
The performance will take a significant hit, but at least you'll be able to connect. -- What's your EVE New Year's Resolution for 2009? |

Edited by: Tres Farmer on 13/01/2009 11:14:29 if you're the tech.. have a look for some prog called FreeCAP.
I used it in conjunction with the JanaProxy-Server at home.. worked flawlessly..

Only problem with connecting back at home through VPN is that I've not got a static IP so I'd have to make sure I have the right IP address before leaving the house in the morning.

I use Hamachi for connecting to my machine at home. It is very easy to setup and use and, best of all, it is free (although the paid version has more features). Linux, Mac, and Windows clients available.

I use proxycap & an ssh tunnel (socks proxy in putty) over port 80 to be able to run eve from work
ie i use putty to ssh home and use the same connection as a socks proxy

I presume you mean a dynamic IP. If it were static, then it'd be no problem since it'd never change. You might want to look into the various dynamic dns services out there that will let you assign a hostname to a dynamic IP address by updating their servers each time your machine boots up. That way you always connect to the same hostname and it can figure the rest out. -- What's your EVE New Year's Resolution for 2009? |
