I just bought and installed EVE about four days ago, and I've been experiencing some strange lock-ups. They seem to be random, as they can happen when I'm out ratting or sitting in station browsing the market. When it happens the game completely freezes, and force-quitting does nothing. I can still do things like talk on vent when this happens, but it seems no matter how long I wait the game won't unfreeze. I'm forced to re-boot whenever this happens. I don't alt-tab between programs while playing, and the only app I ever run in the background is vent. I'm pretty clueless about the patches and past problems with the Mac client (as I mentioned before, only been playing for a few days now), so any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I think this most recent client has been mostly stable for everyone. Post info about your computer and maybe someone will spot something.

It's pretty much the worst gaming computer ever, but it seems to run EVE fairly well except for in bigger fights very close to objects. As I stated earlier, though, the lock-ups don't seem to correlate to any sort of lag. I can be sitting in dead-space getting 30 fps and it will happen for no apparent reason.

I use a Mac Pro on occasion, about 2 years old and has 4 GB's of RAM. I have no problems with the game usually, but after quitting the game and trying to use any other program, the program I just clicked on freezes. It doesn't matter if it's Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Firefox, Excel, or Entourage. The only solution I have found is prevention. I 'log out' and log back in after quitting the game (Apple Menu > Log Out) and this prevents the problem. However, it is a pain so I usually use my Vista Notebook.
You may want to try logging out and then logging back in as I do to see if this prevents the problem you are having.

I don't think the non-pro MacBooks are officially supported because of the integrated video graphics. Also, 10.4 is missing some graphics updates that 10.5 has gotten. Between those two things I'd expect some issues. Take a look at this:

Pointed out your problem...
Intel Graphic chips <even on a mac> are crap.... they should stay away from the graphics industry... never meant for anything more than a office computer.
not to mention the fact your running 10.4 which tends to cause more issues than 10.5 EVE based players.
The only crashes I experience are when I exit the game....that's about it. And those are easily recoverable.... other than the mess it leaves in my console >.<;;
Consider updating to 10.5... you may find it works better. |

Yes, upgrade to Leopard. (Or wait until Snow Leopard)
I have the same hardware and it works. But it is not supported under OS X, and the performance isn't great. |
