Oveur has posted a new Dev Blog with an update to the server hiccup that was felt earlier today, some of the work being done with optimizing the game code and the "code name" that these optimizations are being called. Well worth the read!

Can't wait to see what the hat will look like

Lag is a serious problem in Eve that i have noticed has increased of late. Despite server/hardware updates, the lag has remained as more people join the game. Fleet battles are unplayable and even mundane things like warping to a gate or jumping into a system is preceded by an unholy amount of lag. This issue needs top priority for fixing before Shiva arrives.

You know, I continue to be impressed with the developers of Eve. They really seem interested in making this game great for the players.
Most of the other MMOG's I've played, run by 'big' corporations seem more intent on throwing out the new goodies (that more often than not, don't work) to keep the cashflow rolling in, and continually listening to the whiners who want to own the whole galaxy all by themselves, while completely ignoring (or at least not acknowledging) the problems that always exist in these complex environments.
Sure the game has a few problems, and some have been around a long time (eg stuck systems).
But the Devs have always been honest, and communicated with the community very well.
Keep up the good work guys, I look forward to the bug squashing, and spiffy'ness, I can't wait for Shiva, but most of all, I look forward to the next post, blog, news article etc from you, letting us know what's happening.

[serious] Does this mean if we lost ships in a laggy fleet today we should petition? [/serious]

Ever since friday I've experienced lag-spikes, once an hour or so, which often results in shaking screen while nothing is moving.
If I sit and wait it out, it can take 2-5min before everything is back to normal and resycned. But if I quit and relog imidietly there is no trace of lag or long logins.
I've been close to loosing my Megathron 2 times now, duo this happening. Really annoying.

Thought I was alone to have this 2-5min out-of-synch problem.. And it happens to me once or twice during a 3-5h session. Funny thing is that it only affects my fast gaming comp and not my laptop. But the laptop is to laggy to use in high risk systems so im pretty much stuck to "safe" space atm.
Tried to reinstall eve from scratch but it didnt help abit.

what i had yesterday was just a frozen-client after each jump, for a while. maybe it's related to the weather (and my video card cooling) since it was very hot yesterday. that poor radeon 8500 will get a cpu heatsink on it really soon.
anyway, woot for the blog. waiting for the spiffyness. (and decided to actually subscribe btw)

I ran missions for my beloved CEO last day and after some hour I noticed a increasingly lag taking over more and more. After some more hour it was totally unplayable, it shouldn't take 3-5 minutes just to enter a crowded system.
After relog I had triple the FPS and everything went as smooth as a baby bottom is.
When will you fix the memory leakage CCP?

Wasn't the blog explaining that they've isolated a lot of problems and are working on them?

There has been an ongoing issue with a node dropping at random times and unfortunately, the node isn't giving any warning of when or how is going down. This may be the cause for some of the spikes that have been felt recently. However, the server crew is looking into ways to find the culprit and squash the problem.
Turns out that my favorite theory that the night janitor unplugging the server and plugging in his vacuum wasn't true.

LMFAO, superb !!! Made my day that has. I can just imagine some old dude completely oblivious to what all those humming black boxes do. Peacefully hoovering away smoking his Golden Virginia as thousands of us scream blue murder at our monitors So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

Last night on Tranq was hideous. I got perma-lagged warping to a station with my gang mates. I was asking teamspeak "um, guys, you're saying the guy's dead but by my targetting he's at 85% shields?"
Then, cuz it never did clear even though I sat waiting for lag to get better for 3 minutes or so, I warped out and again had to ask my gangmates "have I warped out yet guys" and have them say "um, yeah dude, you've been gone for at least a minute." Yet, by my view I was still sitting by the station, beginning to align to warp
My modules came online roughtly 90 seconds after I activated them, and nothing updated for me until I was in a safe spot. Then I warp back to the same gang, at the same place, this time with drones AND missiles in the air taking the station, and I this time (only a few minutes after I warped out, I got no lag. WEIRDNESS!
This isn't a "lag killed my ship" thing, although that's been happening to others. I didn't take a bit of damage, but it's ZERO fun and scary as hell to be more than a minute behind what is going on in the game. I've never had lag that bad, even in a large fleet battle with missiles and drones swinging, and this wasn't even all that big (maybe 14 ships warping in on 2), lots of missiles, but no drones to speak of. Plus, to have the lag not clear up even though I waited, having to warp out to wait for it to clear, that is massively bogus.
