Actually this is my 3D Minmatar battleship project back from 2008.01.20 original EVE forum post
Back then I started the work on a Asgeir Jon Asgeirsson's (CCP Concept Artist) minmatar BS concept pic of the concept
now year later (LOL) it's ready!

anyways if any of you guys have ideas what to model next, let me know and I'll work on something that collects most votes. : ) |

Your Maelstrom model's upper fins are too 'tall'.
The lower fins on your model camber outwards, not inwards - this just makes it look silly and nothardcoreatall.
247k Polies is expensive ;/
A self-illumination map perhaps to lessen the amount of lights?
Tho, other than that, as a 3D modeling enthusiast myself I must give you kudos for your effort :P

heh np, hate if you wish. It's uses so many polys because it's very very detailed... you can't even see dronebay or engines from here properly. Might make a collection of shots later to show off details.

I actually prefer the way the ship looks in game already. Bulking up the solar panels and especially changing the angle of the front lower ones overbalances and squares off the front end of the ship, making it look even clunkier than it already does. It looks "wrong" I think because you've broken the tapered design motif of the ship in some places but kept it in others. On the positive side there's some good detail work, it's a very good try but I reckon you would have gotten a better result had you not seem the drawing that you were inspired by. The original drawing has this problem less because the artist bulked up the visual design in other areas to compensate, hence keeping the "balance" intact, and the boxiness of the raw shapes is counterbalanced by the fact that there are more smooth curves in the detail on the drawing. Which is an advantage that a drawer has over a 3D modeller. You've done very well considering you're working with an extreme handicap.
For your next project I think do something with curves. Amarr or Gallente, doesn't matter what ship. And work from the original, not a drawing - then you can let your imagination run riot with the details rather than be hamstrung by someone else's creative vision that may or may not necessarily translate into a good 3D model. |

Thanks for some input Xiao, modeling by picture only was hard indeed and I think I didn't get the sizes right :( (long wings, short nose etc) I'll to try use the ingame model reference next time.
