I was just taking a new character from the starting area to Rens IV Bureau, and forgot to set my Auto Pilot to avoid low security space, and low and behold, I jumped through a gate, and got ganked hardcore by a gate camper. I am not blaming him, because technically he lost, he wasted ammo on me, all I lost was time spent jumping. I have two questions: what can I do if I were to stumble upon a gate camper in the future? And, what is the auto pilot slide bar for? It is the little bar underneath the low security/high security settings, and it goes from 1-100. Anyways, thanks for the help, and godspeed to all the pilots out there!

that doesn't make sense, you lost a ship, you lost your time. And he gained a kill. This is how it works see you are seeing things backwards.
He didn't lose because he spent ammo shooting you. You lost cause he shot his ammo at you.
I guess it is all about winning the ISK war amirite?

slider determines how paranoid the autopilot is of low sec
a lot of times avoiding low sec can make a 2 jump journey into 15 jumps. the slider controls that.
as far as avoiding gate camps: in low sec fit inertia stabs, a warp stab or two, and upon jumping and seeing the campers
1 - do not panic
2 - stay cloaked
3 - immediately warp to your outgate or other celestial body
if you're in a fast ship, you should be ok. if not, eh. try to burn back to gate i guess. you're probably dead though.
other options including mwding back to gate, fighting them with gate gun support, ecming them, burning out of range, cloaking, etc

Also, i'm sure that don't use that type of language in sixth grade, they're only kids for gods sake. Not completely sure of the relevance of that to this exact conversation however.

Use a scout. Even if it's just you in a shuttle (LowSec).
Check the map and set the filter for ships destroyed last hour, and check last 24 hours too before jumping into low or no sec.
Train up for a CovOps or Blockade runner or both, train up cloaking regardless.
Do not ever expect to have a satisfying PvP encounter in any PvE ships or fit.

Die. Seriously, if you "stumble" upon a camp you have already failed.
The only way to get out of it in that situation is to be in a well tanked ship of some kind with AB or MWD and enough hp to get back to the gate and jump. Or to escape using the align/mwd/cloak TACTIC + lots of luck, OR be in something super quick aligning and warping. That's it and none of these are a sure thing.

Thanks for the responses, and yes, he lost lol. I literally created the character to transfer some items to my old character on a contract. I was in the frigate you literally start the game with. I set the auto-pilot, minimized the game and wrote a paper....he lost lol. I was getting work done, while he sat there and wasted ammo on a useless, empty, frigate. Anyways, I will look into cloaking, and I already got my EW skills high enough to use for jamming at a decent range. Thanks for the help everyone! |

simple dont use autopilot unless u set the prefer safer route option otherwise expect to die alot if u autopilot through low sec |

If you are going into Low/Null sec. You should always go in expecting a gate camp. Therefor you will be prepared if there is one.

I honestly can't say where it was....I just maximized the game when I heard all the explosions and warnings on my surround sound, just to see my pod floating there, then I got pod killed and was re-born back at the station, :). It was pretty weird, then I checked my auto pilot settings, and then was like, ooooohh.... |

you died becasue you where on autopilot, a frig is very hard to catch in low sec if you warp to 0, ony thing to fear really is smartbombs, and thoose are easy to avoid if you warp in on gates at diffrent angle than just gate-gate |

if your only going through lowsec and not 0.0 fit 2 or 3 warp core stabs and either a buffer to survive long enough to warp or inertial stabalizers to increase align time |

i shoot WT noobships all the time. camping isnt for having nice pvp fights, its for disruption and/or isk

I don't blame him at all. If I was out in low sec, and found someone randomly roaming around not paying attention, it's free game. Unless it will drop your standing, I do prefer to have a little bit of a code of ethics, unless they attack first....then it's gloves off, :).
