Edited by: Lisa Seraph on 15/01/2009 04:01:39 Wowza, I just reactivated my account for the 5 day trial and man have things changed.
When I left, I was able to pick up a 30-day GTC for 150m isk. It was nice! It also allowed a broke college kid like me a chance to keep playing the game - by actually playing the game.
I just took a look at the timecode bazaar and saw that the cheapest GTC you can get is 60 days for 600m now?
Has the price of ore/level 4's jumped up to this or have things just taken a turn for the worse?

Few different things.
30d GTC were removed, cutting out "Casual here and there" GTC sellers. The global economy sucks, cutting out "Broke but I really need the ISK" GTC sellers while bringing more "I'm broke but will work my tail off to play free" folks. People, by and large, are able to make a decent living in high sec only - driving up GTC prices.
It's not inflation - ISK is actually deflated right now, according to Dr. E. It's the demand for GTC has gone up, while the supply has gone down. ----------------

What can I say? GTC's are in demand. If you look at the rest of the market it's actually going through small deflation.

And the fact that farmers and macroers will pay any price for GTCs doesn't help lower their prices.

isk is terribly inflated... its just that mineral inflation is keeping up, or even greater.
look at the price of faction loot, t2 bpos, unique ships, and gtcs. (sucks that there is no way to graph price of faction loot vs time, well suppose I could troll through the sell forums for a few 1000 hours, and we just got a way to price gtcs, but only the 30d plex) |

The massive amounts of ISK able to be generated by mission runners with relatively little reason to spend it on anything else other than GTCs has driven their price through the roof. In-game PLEXes are even worse for ISK/time conversion, as the 30D items are around 350-375m ISK each. |

I can't see any inflation, the cost of T1 and T2 have been roughly the same for a long time now, the same can be said for carriers and freighters. Faction ships have varied in price, notably the CNR has become considerably cheaper than before. Titanium has steadily gone up in price since day one, but the same cannot quite be said about the other mineral types.
I've noticed many named and deadspace modules going up in prices, but this has likely to do with demand. As more and more people start making more isk the prices of GTC's and the best modules available will naturally go up, this is however not to say that isk has become inflated.

Megathron Navy Issue: 250 million. Raven Newbie Issue: 270 million.
That's about a 60% deflation from days of yore. Two years ago a hulk was 600 million. Now a paltry 90M.
People are willing to grind harder and longer to play for free. Thus you have continued deflation in player produced goods and inflation in limited supply items like GTCs, t2 BPOs, etc etc.
Also you're not the only one back on a 5 day trial. Plenty of people look at their wallet and go "hmm, maybe I'll play eve again for a month or sixty..."

the hulk is rather easy to explain, people starting inventing them. where before only a few people had hulk bpos.
heh I sold a cnr with 3x cccI for 725mil on dec 3 2007.
that and navy ravens people don't lose them often, and well apparently someone is still buying them from the lp store, for whatever reason. lots more people doing missions that have been made easier translates to more lp available, leads to cheaper lp store stuff. |

Inflation
okay, supply and demand might have something to do with it, but the isk supply is well... massive.

Its been hard work, but we are making headway on getting GTC's to the 1 billion each mark. The Lord willing and the creek don't rise, we will make it there soon after the M10 expansion.
If we could just get CCP to raise the RL cost of GTC just $5 more for a 60day card, we could easy reduce the number of sellers another 40%....then some real Isk control could be had.

I see nothing wrong with this. For every player who grinds isk to buy a GTC, another player is spending their hard earned real life cash to pay CCP for it. GTC's should be so expensive because they force isk spammers out by offering a better price for isk and the money goes to CCP as it should.
Eve like all MMO's is a luxury service. If you're going to pay for it with money you earn ingame, then you damn well deserve to pay through the cybernose for it. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

Also, plexes can be reselled, so they are bought by resellers for 3xx mil and resold for 3xx +10 mil. Other resellers raise the buying price by 0.01 isk, but the impatient ones(stupid ones) raise the price by x mil. Repeat many times. uʍop ǝpısdn ǝɹnʇɐuƃıs ʎɯ ƃuıpɐǝɹ ǝɹɐ noʎ
