So several questions... 1. How do you get the dog? 2. How do you get the power armor and/or tesla armor? 3. Whats the best way to make caps and where?

google for falloutwiki had all the answers
but you can get a few sets of fully repaired power and tesla armour from the main quest, the bit where you travel to the citadel, just be sure you are able to carry a lot and empty your inventory before you get there cause the stuff is heavy

"Junkyard" is north of Megaton and south-east of Minefield. Dogmeat's hanging around within. Be warned, he's fragile as hell.
Power armour can be picked up all over the place. I got my first suit off a Brotherhood outcast who was killed in a random encounter with a Deatchlaw. You can't use it until you've received the correct training, however, which you can only get once you've been granted access to the Citadel as part of the main plot. Similarly, tesla armour only shows up being worn by Enclave troopers, who only show up after an event in the main plot.
To earn caps:
1: don't be afraid to sell stuff. Ammo is weightless, and if you're not using, say, the minigun, then all that 5mm ammo can turn a decent profit. Same goes for flamer fuel, .44, .308, and energy cells, all of which are the least useful ammo types IMO.
2: Keep an eye out for scrap metal and pre-war books. The former can be given to "Walter" in Megaton for 10 caps apiece (or to a character in "Underworld" on the DC Mall for stimpacks). The latter can be turned in to a Brotherhood scribe at the Arlington library for 100 caps each.
3: complete the "Riley's Rangers" mission. Thereafter, Riley gives you caps for each new map location you've discovered and explored.
4: Take either the "Lawbringer" or "Contract Killer" perk. taking the former means that any time you kill an evil human or ghoul, you gain a weightless finger which you can give to a specific NPC for 10 caps each. the altter's the evil version
4: ???

Fully repaired victory rifle = instakills, same for the named .44 magnum you get from Agatha..wherever I met a trade I would buy their entire stock cause these types of ammo are rare. Agreed on the 5mm and flamer fuel though if you don't use it, sell it, but wait until you have barter rank 100 so you get the most caps. |

eh, far as I'm concerned the only ammo types worth bothering with are shotgun shells, 5.56mm, .32, microfusion cells and missiles.
Mostly just the MF cells, though. between A3-21's plasma gun and the "Wazer Wifle", you're pretty much set up forever. - Captain Verin "Stitcher" Hakatain. |

I preferred the chinese assault rifle, sydneys SMG and the magnum usually, as I specced in small guns. They are surprisingly effective with the related perks (commando, headshots, etc)
Either way its nice using things like the sniper etc for a change so I would hold on to that ammo if you can. |

Also if you get the special hockey mask and Action perk for more EP + reilly's armour, you can kill any creature except maybe the super duper mutants (haven't tested) in VATS with sydney's SMG (close/midrange) or the sniper (longrange), and with the lvl 20 perk you wont lose any AP that way so it's basically easy mode.

How do you repair? I have the skill pretty darn high at my level, and have multiple copies of a few guns. I've never gotten the repair button to be active. Do you need some tool like you do in Oblivion? |

Select a gun. Press R, click on other guns. It took me awhile to figure out.
