Edited by: LOTHUIOUS on 15/01/2009 19:29:14 i do some trading now using my Hulk which has about 1300 m3 of space with cargo extenders. i usually make 500k to 1.5m ISK by trade doing 1 to 3 jumps circuits.
i was wounding if i could make much more ISK using a freighter, or is it gonna be just a pain? |

It would take you a long time and a large amount of capital to make any significant profit that way. Most people who have freighters only use them for POS fuelling or moving minerals to a build location. |

The big question: Is there enough volume of whatever your trading to fill a freighter?
The small question: Why does your hulk have only 1300m3 of space with cargo expanders? (or did you forget a '0'?)

How does your hulk have less cargo space than a T1 transport?
Anyways, trading and hauling are separate professions. You may do both in the pursuit of profit but one does not require the other, nor do either require a freighter. Unless you're moving minerals around, in my experience, you don't need a freighter. They're slow, expensive and paint a big target on your cargo. Unless you're moving hundreds of thousands of m3's a day just get a rigged Iteron Mark V.

An Iteron Mark V with cargo expanders has 25,270 m3 of cargo space and rigged it has 38,433 m3 of cargo space.
That should be a nice step up for you and it will cost a lot less than a freighter.

Now here is the problem, if you tell us what you are trading, you will ruin your trade route if it is profitable.
So you will need to go back and look at what you are trading and figure it out for your self.
Freigters start at 756k m3 (58x what your hulk can carry) and can get up to 981k m3. So you need to look at your wallet and figure out if you can afford to buy a freighter + 50x your usual load of goods. You also need to look at how long it would take to fill your buy and sell orders for those goods.

no, that wouldn't ruin anything, i trade almost anything profitable, usually (trading goods like antibiotics etc...) and i don't have any specific rout, i just go anywhere... im still pretty new to trading |

In that case, you are not going to find sufficent volume to justify the use of a freighter.

Since you actually are skilled out to fly a hulk, consider instead flying an orca. You still get a decent jump in cargo (minimum is 37.5k m3 plus 2 lows plus 3 riggings plus 40k m3 of corporate hangar). Max payload is somewhere around 110-120k m3. If you belong to a PC corp, you have a base 77.5k m3 of cargo. It's about 550 mil at the moment which isn't that great compared to the freighter at 850 mil, but you can double as a mining command ship and haul in mining ops (which the freighter can't do). These are useful, if you participate in a team mining especially in your corp.
