At first i was liking the idea that there was the potential for peopele to cheat within the system. I thought it would make this more realistic. But it doesnt, because there's no penalty for cheating. You can delete your character, make a new one and get away completely untouched.
The game is not balanced.
In the news section CCP talks about how someone can scam you by posting 2 market orders and then canceling one of them after you buy low and try to sell high. And they say how they wont interfere with this because its a part of the structure of the game.
How about making it so we can see who is selling something? I mean thats not too unrealistic a thing to have, since in theory i should know who i am buying from in order to pay them.
and if someone does steal from us, what recourse do we have? We cant shoot them unless we wanted to be hunted down by the police. About all we can do is put a bounty on someone. That assumes that we know who it was that cheated us AND that they dont just delete the character after transfering the goods to another character.
There needs to be some sort of accountablity in the game. Thieves need to stand a chance of getting caught and punished. And they cant just delete their character and completely erase their trail. If you dont mind completely ****ing people off, i cant think of a reason not to steal since there doesnt seem to be much of a system in place to deal with thiefs.

Thats another thread i started on some possible ideas for dealing with thiefs. Basically using something similar to the user rating system on ebay.

Instead of banning/deleting/penalising the player caught exploiting or scamming, the devs should make a role play event out of it.
A large bounty should be placed on the character's head by the devs along with a "most wanted" bulletin message detailing the characters crimes against law and order.

I disagree. You want something thats quick and automatic. You don't want something where you have to wait for a dev to come along and make up a story. I dont think they have enough dev/gm's to keep up with the demand for that.
besides, the whole point ccp is making about the thieves is that its a natural part of the game, with no intervention from ccp. so the counter-balancce should also a natural part of the game. Let the players make their own events by policing themselves, rather then a GM doing it.

You can find out who you carried out a transaction with after the event, so if they have ripped you off you already know who to go after. It's all recorded in your journal. -- In-game HTML guide: http://www.mcdee.net/eve/html.html |

Finding out after you've made the purchase isn't very useful. Even when you do find out, you may not be able to do anything about it since the player may be using an alt, and/or the PC's security rating is positive so placing a bounty is not an option.
And if the scam is being run by two players using their alts you may never find out who to blame or be able to prove that the reasons to pull the demand order were not legitimate.
How do you deal with this situation?

That's pretty useless if the scammer uses an alt char, which he most likely will.

You could if we didnŠt use 2 fake characters, one for the buy order and one for tha sell order, and then just trasnfer the money to the real character :) |

Real traders know what a "great" price is on all the "good" trade goods. The only traders who get cheated by scams like these are rookie traders. That's probably why CCP doesn't consider it necessary to change this.
If you are a rookie trader, record market conditions meticulously through a few reboots before starting your trade business. After you have compiled a list of possible NPC "great" prices, you are basically scam-proof.
Greed and ignorance make very bad partners.
