As i was clearing out a hanger of mine in Empire yesterday, I came upon some T2 components which I couldn't be bothered to move. Before sold them on the local market, I checked their mineral content, and found that I could make up to 50% more by reprocessing and flogging the minerals. As someone who is not a T2 manafacturer, I had no qualms about reprocessing these, but it got me thinking.
It seems to me that the availability of the T2 components is not the issue which is affecting the price, it is the component worth of the items. If an agent runner has no need of the items, why should he sell themm over makeing more money by refining them. The price will not drop if more T2 components are introduced.
The way I see it is that to reduce the price of them, the ability to reprocess them should be removed. With some you can't anyway (eg, the electronics components), but this should apply to all. Then the price will be goverened by the supply and demand of the components, as is the case with minerals.

Their price is governed by supply and demand. Did you have any reactors? They go from 15K to 75K a unit. Also, you could have auctioned them as a group and you would have gotten at least 10K per unit, most likely more.

Yep i had some graviton reactors. Someone had a buy order on for 101k per reactor, but refining them gave me over 130k each (i think). A lot of people, including myself, probably wouldn't be bothered to pu them on the market wand wait for someone to buy them especially if they're in small amounts. Being able to make more money by refining them straight away than by selling them straight away means that there are less T2 components floating around than are put into the game. Removing the option to refine them gives you the option to sell or trash, so the supply and demand becomes much MORE of a factor than when you could get minerals from them. --- "Due to the European lard shortage, we are currently unable to supply this product." |

I'm afraid you are mistaken, and you just blew a chance at some money. There isn't a component that recycles more than about 15K in minerals (and that is at 'real' mineral prices).

Looks like you recycled your whole stack of t2 components for 130k of minerals whnen you could of sold the components for 130k each. Looks to me like you lost millions. Oh well.

C'est la vie about the Isk.
However, you are dead on about the waste of components. Once they are recycled they are gone. Now, about those Fusion Reactors on sale for 500K each...they are gone as much as if you had recycled them.

well, it wasn't that much, only about 7 of the reactors, and a few othe bits and bobs, but still, won't be doing that again in a hurry --- "Due to the European lard shortage, we are currently unable to supply this product." |
