Deimos has 6 highs and 5 turrets, and nothing better to do with the utility high slot.
Vexor has 5 highs and 4 turrets, but you can't get as much DPS out of it (obviously) and might have a problem fitting a cloak. __________________________________

Keep in mind that you can't cloak while a rat has a lock on you, so cloaks have limited use on a ratting ship.
Otherwise, as noted by the previous poster, just pick a ship that would normally be good for ratting and give up a high slot for a cloak if it doesn't have a spare one.

Ishtar and Deimos are both excellent ratting ships.

if you can, train drones for ishtar, dont need ammo for ratting and can stay back there for as long as you want if you dont fill up on loot

If you are gallente and do ratting, drones are the way to go. They can attack from "any" range and are effective. Then you can just fit a blasterfit onto the ship and either assist with those, or keep them as pvp weapons / protection.
Cloak is only good if you run to your safespot and turn it on when bad people come by. If you are in systems where there are NPC stations then docking works as good as a cloak. Of course it's not really that simple, but basically if you don't need a cloak...then you don't need one. |

Edited by: Tulisin Dragonflame on 20/01/2009 05:44:38 I'd vote for Vexor. AB + decent little armor tank (rat specific) will allow it to tank rat spawns while t2 medium drones and blasters put out respectable cruiser DPS.
Plus the drones make quick work of scram/web frigates that exist just to ruin your day.

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 20/01/2009 05:46:28 Thorax can rat in low or mid-quality nullsec systems other than Angel space with two high slots set aside for a cloak and salvager, and a low slot set aside for a cargo expander. I've been there and done that. Use Void unless you don't mind paying 1,000 ISK a shot w/CN AM.

An eagle has a utility slot for the cloak, can fit 3 damage mods and tanks nicely. Just dont use 250's. EVE history

For Guristas and Serps Nuetron Deimos, gank fit with a cloak is supreme.
However a t2 sentry ishtar with 3 omni links and cloak, small remote repper can stay out indefinately, change dmg types/range so its superior imo. The fact that it doesn't have to mwd around and has a huge cargo for a HAC is a big plus as well.

Indeed, cargo is nice! NICE!
Also, the Ishtar is a rather steep learning curve, but once you get it... but do indeed remember that losing ships is normal, and loosing a ishtar sucks. The ship + drones + fitting = iskies gone up in smoke, but ishtar is a annoying thing to blow up from the sky too.
Bascially don't fly the Ishtar BEFORE you have good skills. When you do...mmm... Stop whining. |

I whould go for the vexor with t2 hammerheads, blasters and cloak. Or perhaps even lasers to get rid of the ammo problem, and cap rechargers in mid + AB and active rat specific armor tank in lows.
