66+ million sp pilot, heavily concentrated on combat skills (I can fly and fight any Gallente ship in the game except the titan).
Okay, so that's me. I'm returning to the game after a long stretch off and need to relearn quite a bit, apparently. As a dad of two young girls, though, my gaming time is severely limited. I simply don't have the online time that would be fair to joining a new corp/alliance that would permit deep 0.0 ratting (my old source of income for years).
I've tried trading on the npc market in the past, but that's always seemed pretty milquetoast to me...too little return for too much time put in and almost requires alt accounts. Maybe that's changed...if so that's possibly interesting.
Missions seem to be the way to go. I was running level 3's (faction-fitted dominix) solo for a long time before I stopped playing and, while it was certainly consistent income, it wasn't the most exciting (read as repetition).
I'm up in Gallente space with near perfect standing with the Gall navy. What should I be looking into? Level 4's? |

As your regular level 4 grinder, I can say they wont bring anything new to the equation, especially after you've run them few times. With your skills they should be a breeze. The income is quite a bit higher than in level 3s though.
I would consider looking into exploration. Less constant income but much more interesting, especially in lows/null sec (If you can stand the scanning process).

If you find an exploration site and come back with a combat ship to go through it, can someone probe you out and jump you like they can in mission complexes? |

Yes. Yes they can.

If you plan on unexpected periods of afk, then probably level 4 missions would be better than exploration. Set up a dominix with a ridiculous tank, throw out some heavies or sentries, and come back in 30 minutes. Good chance you'll still be there.

First of all welcome back.
Then the best thing to do is as stated before setup a tank to tank as much as you can (you can always lower it a bit if you notice that you are always above 80% damage) Then using drones is a good option certainly for a Gallente character but be aware that there are quite a few misions where the mission rats will attack the drones. So you might want to kill of a few of the bigger ships your self, upset the whole room and then kick out the drones. Since the rats don't bother switching to killing the drones you can just leave the drones to do the work and come back in a bit when the room is cleared.
I have no idea how long you have not been playing but I would advise you to skip salvaging, if you are pressed for time then salvaging is just going to take to much time and is about as much fun as mining with the exception that you have to micro manage more as you need to fly from wreck to wreck.
Other then that, if you are intrested I might know a nice corp that consists mostly of people in the same situation, some kids a job and social obbligations all of us between 40 and 80M skill points. So no need to explain if you need to run away during a mission or if the kids are banging on the keyboard (all of them EU time zone players). Most of us have at some point or another been doing the 0.0 thing but for now are all more then happy with some easy stable income from high-sec mission running. If you are intrested give me a shout in game. |
