Yeah, yeah...I know but hear me out.
My GF kinda-sorta likes video games but only games like Myst. While admittedly slim it is a step past most women I have dated who would never dream of touching any computer game beyond Solitaire (and probably not even that). At least this door is slightly ajar here. In my nefarious plan to get her back to computer gaming and maybe nudge her along to other genres I was thinking about getting her to start again with something she like (e.g. Myst-like games). She has played Riven too so no go there.
Is there anything else? Particularly anything remotely recent and/or at least available? Or is this a long lost style never to be seen again? FYI: Do not recommend anything that remotely requires action gaming (aka twitch stuff). She will run from that at top speed and never look back.

Short answer no
long answer noooooooooooooooooooooo.
Myst was the end of a genra, no one has picked up its artistic style or gameplay sense which is quite sad really. The adventure company has attempted to revive the point click mystery game but they are too cartoony for my taste.

Hmm...that might work.
Also just remembered Syberia. Wonder if I can still find a copy of that.

Edited by: Karma on 22/01/2009 00:21:59 I second 'The Dig', lucasarts second to last adventure game, and if you ask me. their masterpiece.
... other games, dreamfall is nice, but I liked the Longest Journey far more. (it sets the stage and has a nicer pace to it, while dreamfall just sort of dumps you in the middle of the story and expects you to know the world and people from the get go...) also if you get the longest journey, get the DVD version, which will work with WinXP or Vista without extensive tweaking.
if you happen to have a playstation 2. try to get her to try out ICO.
still though... hmmm... myst had a special playstyle which is kind of unique. the only other games which had that perspective and puzzle-solving, would have to be the journeyman project, I think... and Eden (the game from -98, not Project Eden from -01, btw) |

Has she played the other games in the Myst series (e.g; Myst II-V)?? Technically the closest match. You might also want to check this out: Return to Mysterious Island. Beyond that I don't know much else other than Syberia which you have already mentioned.

i like a little on the darker side. i think everyone remembers 7th guest and 11th hour right? how about this... Phantasmagoria 2 (was like 11 cds :P) AWESOME game
keep spitting out the ideas if there are any more, i'm taking notes right along side the OP :)

Yeah, I would have recommended TLJ over Dreamfall but wasn't sure what the OP's definition of 'remotely recent' was :) |

Mostly I am aiming for good graphics recent and still available (somewhere) recent. |

longest journey gameplay.
but it looks more like you might want to look into the later Myst games. probably best not to let her play Riven (Myst 2) though... as that raised the difficulty level to somewhere near Pluto. (seriously, myst is logic-based, riven is click-every-button-pull-every-lever-you-see-and-pray-based).
