I know I have seen this before but i will be hanged if I can find it now. I understand there is a Linux equivalent to EVEmon. Could someone please post the URL where I can download it? If not a direct Linux-based app, then something that will run on Linux to track skills? Thanks in advance.

gtkEVEMon works fine - but doesn't have many of EVEMons features yet. Just skill tree and simple training plan (no item database etc...) and an icon which shows time left for current skill training.
The original EVEMon started working a few months ago on regular Mono (worked earlier with a patched mono version). But still crashed a lot when I last tried (sometime late last year). Not sure how well it works atm.

Anyone having success running EveMon via WINE? I see a reference to "Mono" above but as a complete dolt, I have no idea what it is. Please have pity on the unlearned. :)

In tech-speak: Mono is a free implementation of the .NET libraries, letting you run .NET applications on Linux.
What this means is: If something is written in .NET (and so requires the .NET libraries to run), as EVEMon is, Wine won't run it but Mono might.

Evemon has a mono version as well. There are snapshots of it that works decent enough as long as you don't click too fast. You can download the snapshot, extract and run it with the command mono EVEMon.exe.
At the moment the site of evemon is down so i can't give you the direct link.

Not quite correct. You can install .NET on wine. I wouldn't expect 100% of .NET working smoothly yet - but it was good enougn last year to be able to run Neverwinter Nights 2.
But mono is preferable as that is installed often anyway for tools like Tomboy. --- Save the forum: Think before you post. ISK BUYER = LOSER EVE TV- Bring it back! Laptop, NVidia7900GS, Ubuntu 8.04, WINE |
