So I have been reading the Market boards for a few weeks now, and have begun to get into Industry and Trade. My question, is this. It appears as though reputation is very important here, as right it should be. How does one go about building a reputation on this board? I one day would more than likely want to secure some form of public financing. It is a few months off, but all the same I would like to begin to build my credibility. Should I take out a small loan on these boards? Should I invest some money somewhere? What would be a good first step? |

Well Ostt is another of your characters. Do you have any others?
Best advice for someone who wants public cash:
1. Do it on your own for a few months. If possible, sell wholesale in the sell forums. 2. Ask for a small amount the first time. 1B is what I suggest, although others say 10b is the threshold (too high IMO). |

Post intelligently around here and keep logs of your private trading using something like emma.
After a few months you'll have the experience to handle the funds, a solid trading history that can be verified by API and you'll be established on MD as a fairly intelligent person which will help get you a good rate on that funding.

If he's volunteering to do a free audit, I'd take him up on it.

I have ostt, who was my first toon. He is pvp based, and is about a year old. I was in two different corps, with him although I was not very active. He is currently sitting in the Caldari Militia, and has been there since Empyrean Age. Beyond that I have one other guy named Lord Plink. Who I just made to reserve a possible future name. All of these are on the same account. I would take him up on the free audit, but at this point there is nothing to in fact audit. I would just like to start building my reputation so in a few months if I decided to seek public financing I would have something to fall back on. At this point I am minning high sec to build up a cash stock pile. To begin manufacturing and trade.
Now saying that, I will give any information needed in order to verify that what I have said up to this point is true, if you think my minor details at this point warrant an audit.

I am offering an "audit" but not as you may think. I host a number of installations of Ray's "Sexy" for various people. I'm offering to host this for you as well. Over the next several months you can have your activities recorded (and reviewed), by a third party, thus building up confidence in your efforts. This can be used as a track record for investors to consider when you go seeking increased funding. Also, if you are doing hi sec mining feel free to contact me. I've no problem offering you a fair dollar for a fair dollar's product. In truth, the best way to build reputation is in game by building relationships. That is the kernel from which a greater level of reputation can grow.
My old mercenary(PVP) corp is recruiting again. Would you believe I'm giving them my signature block for free? |

Thank you for the offer and advice, but what is Rays "Sexy"? |

Few questions for you:
What is your three, six, nine and twelve month goals for Eve? See annex A Do you want to be a hub trader? See annex B Do you want to be a Ammo / Module / Ship / Rig builder? See annex C
Annex A [code]Setting goals is something that I have found to be important both in game and in real life. A person without goals tends to float along and doesn't have any indication that they deserve to be trusted with public money.
Annex B If you want to be a hub trader then you need to work on your standings, trade skills and most important your market skills (actual knowledge, not skill points) Do you know what type of volume goes through your hub of choice daily, weekly, monthly? Are you going to trade via a mathematical formula or are you going to focus on materials, T1, T2 etc... Do you the capacity to haul or the skills to set up numerous courier contracts? Do you understand that Meta 1 items have a base value in minerals when refined but that it doesn't hold true for higher Meta items and named items?
Annex C If you are going into manufacturing please read some of the stickies and for all that is good in the world understand that minerals you mine are not free. Here is my free tip of the day: Only mine one type of Ore but put up buy orders for the other types that spawn in the space you are in, i.e. Plago and such. If you mine straight veldspar and have a perfect refine keep doing that to start building up your cash flow. If you are not doing any of the processes in Annex A or B then don't worry about it for a while. Why do you need isk? I would only sell my veldspar (if I can't perfect refine) or trit when I am ready or when a really good opportunity exists. If you have the patience put up sell orders or keep a daily log of the price of trit in your hub area. Set a price for yourself and only sell when trit hits that price. Set up a system that works for you, either every 3,5,7 days etc... There is no need to sell everyday, the isk isn't doing you any good in your wallet. Back on topic, start off with some BPC's purchased through contracts to get a feel for what it takes to build stuff, including all the costs at the station etc...Price accordingly and begin to profit. Ammo will always make you money, but it is not always going to give you the best isk to time ratio. You only have so many build slots and once you hit your limit you will start to adjust your own isk to time ratio. Do some more reading on that topic, learn from some of the other business leaders and good luck. |

Thank you for that, I did not have goals when I started Eve with Ostt, and sort of did just float around doing a little pvp and some missions. Getting into Industry I do have goals, 3/6/ and 12. So far I am on track to my three month. (Note, Although she is older, I just started to focus on Elrissa and got serious into Industry three weeks ago.). I have also by coming here and seeking the advice of people more knowledgeable than myself begun my first steps into my six month goal.
My three month goal is this: To skill up needed manufacturing and trade skills. To stockpile enough cash through mining to purchase a highsec POS, and some BPO's whos markets I have researched and understand.
Six Months: To use BPO's to begin making money, and to stockpile more cash as collateral for some form of public financing.

Shar hosts one of these for me and my operations, as well as delivering a monthly NAV Report in return for some isk (hmm thinking of which, I must pay him someday) and its the single most productive thing I have ever setup.
I didn't do it to build a reputation, I already had/have all the funds I needed, but the visibility it gives to participants to track how the business is going is fantastic. All without having to let them into the corporation. FRPB Shares in Default |

Sadly, this may look like a troll but for many this is very true. They see someone posting alot and think that person actually knows what they are doing or is respectable. Of course this is far from the truth but that doesn't stop it from happening or from having trolls accusing substantive people, who just happen to post, from being that empty. (Perhaps they can't see substance that they are lacking?)
