Because I love space strategy games I recently downloaded this $9.99 app for my Ipad called "Galaxy Empire"... basically an online RTS for Ipad.
Browsing through the menus and selecting ships, I was baffled to find that Galaxy Empire's bomber art was a cut and paste of the beloved Drake. Same for the Legion and the Abaddon...
Pretty shameless tbh... Anyone ever come across anything similar? |

There was a book a while ago that had myrms on it and a year or two ago one of my friends found a 4th of July fireworks thing called the Galaxy Buster with an abaddon on it.
Also the latest thing was that Saturday Night Live's latest "Laser Cats" video features a Hel landing in "Future New York" The Drake is a Lie |

Heads up...I found a game called Light of Nova. The character creator for the game is a portrait. The portraits are taken from the carbon character creator of CCP. Ran into it on facebook. The advertisement for it labeled as "web eve". |

Thing about EVE is that it is not incredibly well known like Star wars and Star Trek but a lot of the Ships are beautiful, powerful and unique. |

The Star Destroyer I think it's called. I traded my free aurum for a recon ship, so thanks I guess. |

Some people seem to think it looks like a Star Destroyer in that they are both Triangles.
I think it is to thin at the sides and the top is to triangular though to make a good comparison.
Cormorant reminds me a bit of a Terran Battlecruiser. |

Which also reminds me of an asgard ship.
So by transitive property, cormorants are related to asgard ships. Things are only impossible until they are not. |

But on a serious note, I do believe the hurricane and Ravager from KOTOR 2 look quite similar. Also SWTOR has Frigates that are smaller and slimmer that are more similar to the cane. However they're white. |

Indeed. And everyone seemed to miss the point of my Star Wars post too, and were like, "omg cane doesn't look identical to star destroyer!" instead. Give me a minute and I could find an Avatar which Homeworld borrowed from EVE. Post with your monkey. |

There is a big difference between inspired by design and ripping of art from the client or website.
I can't see how people thing they'll get away with it, especially if its an payable app on a well known platform (like Ipad) - [yellow]English only please. Zymurgist[/yellow] |

I haven't watched that in a bit but I think there is only a vague resemblance at best. There is a difference between looks like and same model where art assets are concerned. Also, mods are not the same as commercially released games. It may well be the mod designers have permission to release what they have or are simply waiting for CCP to call them on it before dropping support for the mod.
Either way, mod designers get enough flak and I don't see harm in what they are doing. CCP apparently supports some form of model extraction or at least condones it anyway, whether it be for renders or modding of other games for personal entertainment.
Mod designers seldom incorporate other peoples-or games-art assets without giving credit to where they borrowed it from. In fact, it is usually a way of attempting to emulate the original using another game engine. In some ways it is considered a tribute. Personally I think some people get too worked up about such things.
Commercial or free games that give no credit to the original asset designer and distribute a game client they claim as their own using those assets is another thing. Maybe not so different in some peoples opinion, but still a far cry from mods of an existing game by community members using art assets from other games.
Provided you are not reverse engineering or something it is generally considered acceptable unless the developer has strictly declined permission for the use of these assets for personal enjoyment outside of the game. I haven't really looked to see if that is the case here, nor have I used any mods with EVE models in them in other games or seen any.
I have seen redistributions of EVE models for injection into other games however. Technically mods, but actually just standalone ships with the appropriate mechanics in place for a specific game. Available from a Russiansite if I recall for use in X3. Never tried one because I don't see the point and I don't really find XSPs to be that functional and/or they tend to be out of place if such things are just dropped in willy nilly.
Can't think of ever seeing EVE ships or models elsewhere, but I've never looked all that hard either. Turn WiS into wIN! ..make all the characters Nude. |

Apparently Star Wars also borrowed a time machine from somewhere as they somehow borrowed these designs some thirty years before EVE was a glimmer in the developers eye.
