I wanted to know if in eve you can have a visual radar like, in other games. |

As in the ships around you in an encircling field of blips? Yes, is called the Tactical view. Left side of your HUD. |

If you mean a 2 dimensional graphic showing you in relation to everyone else...no. EVE doesn't have that.
It has something better. The Overview window shows everything you can "see" in your vicinity, along with their range. In addition, you can use a button at the bottom of your HUD to bring up an overlay on the main view, which looks just like a 3D Radar screen.
And dont roll your damn eyes at me.

I think the directional scanner used to operate like a radar screen, but this has long since been changed. |

We used to have a radar, but it wasn't very good and was replaced by the scanner.

It's an earlier UI, kinda 'stolen' from Elite. It's now the Tactical overview which you can switch on and off and it's not really a radar in the sense that it sees more than you can see yourself. Just a 3D representation.
Best 'radar' we have is the shipscanner although it doesn't allow for pinpointing stuff.

Tim, belive it or not, I played 10 days before I even knew about the "overview". I thought the overview was simply the screen. You know how I realized it? I saw a teeny little bar with "settings" on it at the very top of my screen and decided to double click it, and presto, the OVERVIEW showed up. (It was minimzed, like a Windows window). I'm not indicating you may be making the same mistake I made, but it is possible.
If you actually do know what the overview is, and how to use it properly, the ship scanner, probe scanner and tactical overlay are also in the game, as others have mentioned. The overview is a list based info screen that can show type of ship, distance, corp, transversal, name plus a host of other attributes of objects from an "implied radar". |
