Hi All
I had an idea, probably gleaned from years of reading SciFi lol
What if we could carry a shuttle in our cargo bays, and upon imminent ship destruction instead of your pod being ejected, your shuttle is launched with you inside it?
You could also have an option in the right click menu for Launch Shuttle, and even the option to dock your shuttle with your ship, provided the cargo bay was big enough to accomodate the shuttle in the first place.
Just an idea.. |

No ship that is not an industrial or capship has enough cargo space to carry a shuttle.
A disassembled shuttle, well that is something else. But...
"DANGER! DANGER! Evacuate ship immediately. I repeat: Abandon ship! Run to the cargo bay and... assemble... your... do-it-yourself (glue included) shuttle kit?!"
So what it boils down to is that you are not actually carrying a shuttle. You are carrying the parts for a shuttle. Assembling a ship in a combat situation... highly unlikely. |

Well I'm sure (but correct me if I'm wrong) that if you eject a shuttle in your cargo hold it comes out assembled. You can then eject your pod and board the new shuttle.
My idea was basically to cut out the middle man and eject the assembled shuttle with your pod inside it. It would give that added bit of security when your ship is destroyed, an extra layer of armour if you will, plus have a slightly better chance of escaping as a shuttle is faster than a pod, this would still be balanced with the shuttle being slightly less manoueverable.

I'd rather be a in pod over a shuttle any day if I wanted to escape quickly. It's not how fast a pod warps, it's the fact that it has instant warp. You'd be more likley to get targetted and killed in a shuttle, so therefore I hope you idea never see the light of day.

Well, in that case you'd still have your pod once your shuttle is destroyed, which would still give you the chance to instantly warp out and tell me 'I told you so'
Besides, my idea would be an option - you wouldn't have to carry a shuttle around with you, and on smaller ships this wouldn't be possible anyway.

So, when traveling in dangerous territory, always hava couple of "decoy shuttles" in your cargo bay? :) |

Why not make it so their is no pod, just a shuttle. You dont see your pod in your cargo bay now anyways so do the same for the shuttle. (personally I don't care about this idea)

Id like to shake the hand of the guy who locks a shuttle before it warps (besides interdictors). |

I'm willing to bet I could target a shuttle quicker then a Pod. Shuttle still need to allign, pods don't have that problem |

How many times I wished a had a small fast ship that can be deployed from the battleship so I can quickly get to a nearby system, while not being completely vulnerable in my pod... The shuttle is just too big to carry it around in cargo hold, since it is usually filled with ammunition or different resistance modules. It could be a new shuttle design/class that will is designed for that ship, and is free (like a pod), but slower and with weaker defense, or it could be the same shuttle we use today, but every ship, if large enough - like a battleship - could have a special shuttle hangar bay, which could hold one or more shuttles. |

No, but it would perhaps be a good idea to change the way eject works, so if you eject before you ship is destroyed your pod is sent at very high speed (think 30km/s), 150 - 200km away. (Should be a different option from the existing, eject to change ship one).
Gives incentive to eject as you are dying because your pod will survive, instead of staying in it to the last moment.
Also would likely increase the amount of implants used in combat as pods would be safer.
The downside to this is that the ship you ejected from should have less of its modules destroyed to be looted. Plus there is the chance that if your opponents are quick enough, they may be able to cease-fire and steal the ship. |

Only way to catch a shuttle (in empire) is with a ceptor sensor boosting while being remote sensor boosted. Anyone who does this for a shuttle deserves to kill the shuttle... but also has no life..
