CAREBEARS UNITE!
Greetings fellow industrialists,
I would like to announce the unveiling of an industry calculator of unprecedented functionality... Unfortunately, its not available yet. We are still in preliminary testing.
About the Calculator: Fed up with using multiple workbooks to function as I needed, I decided to create my own. Like Doctor Frankenstein, I hacked up the available calculators that fit the functionality of this monster. Then I went one step further and applied my knowledge of supply chain management, attained through a business degree, to create my masterpiece, a hybrid of RL knowledge and EVE magnificence. After countless weeks of grunt work, from conception to implementation, a new level of industry management has been achieved.
Functions: List to come soon.
Screenshots: Will be linked when preliminary testing is complete.
Availability: Beta-testing soon. I will need some testers. |

Suggestion, if you haven't already implemented it: add the option to sort buildable items by profit per slot-hour. |

I've been using EMMA Marketing tools to come up with a report of the profitability of the items I make and sell.
It breaks down the items into materials volume. It then uses the market data I have to from the purchase of the material to get the cost price.
In the end I'm left with a list of items and their cost analysis vs their market analysis. What it gets me is which item is the most profitable to make, which one yields the most ISK (Because sometimes the most ISK is not the largest margin).
What I would like to see in this tools functions is a report that lists these two values for each item.
Obviously your not going to have a market API data but for each item you should be able to enter a "What are you selling it for" price.
It then produces a list of the top most profitable (Largest margin) items and the top most ISK returned. So for example..
Rockets have a huge margin they cost 1.2ISK to make and sell for as high as 9 ISK so their margin is massive. Where as Standard missiles have a much smaller margin but make more ISK per unit sold. |

Profit per slot-hour is a better measure overall, as long as you have enough isk / minerals to build as much as you want in parallel. If this becomes a constraining factor, you can use profit per slot-hour / (total capital costs per slot) --- Can't afford that BPO? Look here. 20:1 mineral compression The EVE f@h team |

Thank you all for the insight and support. I am surprised, given the "vagueness" of this thread. You guys will be happy I think. I am going to attempt to incorporate the profit per slot hour, shouldn't be too difficult. I agree that is an important measure.
Some more information about the calculator:
- Its in Excel 2007 format, for the conditional formatting, but should work with OpenOffice.
- Right now its about 2.5megs but I can zip it down to 7k with 7-zip.
- Beta-testers will get a unique password to unlock the workbook so you may tailor to your own needs.
- Yes, I did use the flimsy Excel password protect cells, because the workbook utilizes a lot of "hidden" text in neighboring cells and a page of pure calculations.
- There is room for 200+ unique prints (on base values sheet) and 40 unique materials on top of the 900 prints and 200 materials already filled in.
- I will be asking for an entrance fee (a very reasonable amount of isk) to be a beta-tester, only because you get an "unrestricted" version and... this is my baby
, I poured a lot of time and energy into it.

Excel 2007 will cut out a lot of the possible users and I'm not sure Open Office can use the 2007 files.
I think Excel has supported 'conditional formating' since at least version 2000.

Edited by: W0t0n Kill4 on 27/01/2009 20:17:33 A reasonable entrance fee would be classified as less than 25Mil. I haven't decided as of yet, still gauging interest. Looks like 10 of you have explicitly said they are interested, so far. If we get more, I may be persuaded to put a price on feedback quality... it will be subjectively "graded" of course. So tell your friends!
I am hoping to get screenshots up soon, most of the issues making it backwards-compatible with Excel 2003 have been resolved. The material cost analysis page is the main slowdown, hopefully will have it solved shortly... or I might scrap it, as its sole purpose is to illustrate which materials have the biggest impact on the items in the build queue.
As I said before, you guys will be getting an unique password to unlock the cells to modify-to-suit your personal / corporate needs. That's something that people won't get when the official 1.0 version is released; thus justifying the "entrance fee" (tester fee).
Thank you for your support

Quick question,
Will it be possible to enter a bpo type, enter the ME and PE level and have it calculate cost and total mineral usage?
For example I have a drake bpo (or bpc) with 10me and 10pe
will it calculate this for me for time and % wastage as well as showing me total materials required and at the cost per material as well as total?
Also will this include a database entry for bpos or is it possible to link it to the database and just tell us to get this calc and the database for bpos as well?

Edited by: Joseph Shephard on 27/01/2009 22:24:25 Woton, I don't know how close to completion you are, but me and my corp just launched a calculator that does a portion of what your overall plan does. If you want to send me an eve-mail or chat, there might be some way for us to synergize them if the two are not completely redundant. It's a few threads down, called the A-Sheet, if you want to take a look, but it is only for t1 production, not mining or anything so far.
Let me know if you want to talk.

Quick questions:
- How macro-heavy is this?
- How reliant on Excel [just formatting?]
- Would you be interested in a Mac tester/developer?
- How will you handle updates [CCP changes]?

None... surprisingly. Macros are convenient, but I hate doing them, I found a way to handle this program without.
Originally by: Kename Fin
How reliant on Excel [just formatting?]
This program utilizes conditional formatting and functions such as: sumproduct, transpose, lookup, index/match, data validation, drop-downs, sumifs, etc.
Originally by: Kename Fin
Would you be interested in a Mac tester/developer?
If you can handle this program on a Mac, more power to you, and I would happily accept you into the testing.
Originally by: Kename Fin
How will you handle updates [CCP changes]?
As of now, the database in the workbook is static, meaning I will have to manually update and release the database spreadsheet to be imported at the end-user level.
***ANNOUNCEMENTS***

The 3.0x version had support for xlsx file importing ( http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/features/3.0/#Microsoft_Office_2007_Import_Filters ) although I am not sure if that will give your sheet a hard time or not. --- Ishikari Industries

First shipment of the Keystone Beta Test are going out today. There are currently 8 people registered with fee and email submitted. I will accept moar testers until March 2nd. If interested, send me an eve-mail with confirmation of payment and your preferred email address. I will send the file zipped with 7zip software along with your workbook unlock password.
[Note:] After long hours of slaving over my lappy, I have determined that scaling this back to '03 format is not feasible. The workbook loses both functionality and the aesthetics are very unfriendly to the eyes. I have received confirmation that OpenOffice 3.0+ will support .xlsx.
