When I attempt to launch my game, I get the normal splash screen for a few seconds and then...nothing. I stay at my desktop. Checking the task manager (Vista) shows the eve process still running, but I am showing nothing on screen.
This is the second time this has happened to me. The previous incident went unexplained and was fixed with a coincidental format and reinstall of windows. This time, the problem seems to be a result of switching out my motherboard. Before replacing it, the game worked flawlessly and now it doesn't.
In my attempts to fix this, I initially cleared the cache and then proceed to repeatedly uninstalling and installing the game to no avail. Any suggestions?
(also, does eve even have a forum search??) |

Seriously... how are we supposed to help people who post no system specs along with their problem?
Ok, you have Vista... but what gfx card? What driver version? What Processor? What sound card? How much RAM?
more detail please! (should be a rule of this forum in my view - no specs = no help) |

Wow, the timing is weird but, I have the exact same problem and it appears to be at the exact same time..
Tried reinstalling EVE from an old install and that didnt help, tried updating DX that didn't help either..
I submitted a Petition but am still awaiting a responce.. I might however just try reformatting my system to see..
During my forays into the unknown I did come acroos a tid bit that might be useful to someone who understands its meaning...
"Warning, no HAL adapter found. Service device : 0.195 sec An exception has occurred. It has been logged in the log server as exception #6 57 Service alert : 0.001 sec"
Got this from running the EVEEXE. file in the bin folder... Also next to the shortcut for launching EVe in the main EVE folder in parenthese is this, (Safe Mode)...
following is my SYS Info:
------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 1/25/2009, 11:17:56 Machine name: DADSSMALLPC Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.080814-1236) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: HP Pavilion 061 System Model: PJ562AA-ABA a705w BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.93GHz Memory: 1016MB RAM Page File: 365MB used, 2079MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.5512 32bit Unicode

Same problem, mine happened after the usual clone jump freeze that seems to happen a lot now, I closed the client and then rebooted it, been getting this problem ever since, biggest bummer is that i'm obviously not training anything at the moment due to the clone jump. |

HAL (in this context) refers to something called the "Hardware Abstraction Layer" - this is basically a driver of some kind.
Have you updated any drivers lately? Or (more likely) has Windows update updated them for you?
Problem is that, with the info supplied, I can't tell what piece of hardware the driver is for.
Any way you can look at your Windows Event viewer and see if there's anything logged in the "Application Log" or "System Log" at the times when you try to launch Eve? |

Same here - failed to change my station view during a clone jump, crashed trying to relog and after that I was getting the splash screen followed by sound for the login screen but no display of it, just my usual desktop. It would run safe mode though. LogServer suggested that HRes files weren't being able to load. Reinstalling alone didn't work until I uninstalled first plus deleted all my settings and cache before a completely fresh install. |

This.
Files corrupted by the CTD are the cause of this problem - the uninstall/reinstall worked as the reinstall alone would not necessarily replace the damaged files (the install program would see the old files as "there" even though they're damaged in some way & causing the game not to load.

Well for me personaly I finaly recalled having ran my Anti-Virus program just before all that and decided that I must have damaged a file or something in the process..
After reformatting windows and updating everything again properly I can now play EVE again without any hitches..
I suspect that all of us have a similair cause. however that does not mean its the same file/s.. I still myself don't know which file it may have been.. Tho I suspect it has to be something directly attached to video graphics and EVE.. I say this cause I had NO issues with anything else on my Computer.. And several attempts at removing and reinstalling EVE had failed to remedy the situation itself...
