First off, I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this. I created a petition and was kindly instructed to contact CCP directly. I sent an email and waited, and waited for a response. I have yet to hear back and thought that I must have been lost to a spam filter. So here I am trying to get in contact with the right people.
I am making this post to request a copy of the high polygon model of the Naga. I am trying to plan out a computer case that will be a model of that ship, but both the in game model (yay for station spinning) and what I pulled from Tri-Exporter are insufficient for my needs.
I remember how in a DEV blog the company talked about how they generate high polygon ship models that they use to "bake" the textures and such for the in game models. I would like to request access to this model. I want to recreate EVERY detail of the ship and I was hoping that CCP could help me out. I want to have this built in time for PDXLAN 20 in Portland, Oregon.
I am an avid fan of EVE and I really want to make a case worthy of this great game. I have already begun to acquire the materials for the case including:
Carbon fiber, resins, build material for my 3D printer, fiber optic light guides, cable harnesses, microcontrollers, RGB LEDs, and blank PCBs.
I want to make this case as accurate as possible with almost every possible texture and detail applied to the ship. I would imagine that for the sake of performance, the models in game are limited in their detail. With computer hardware advancing at such a rapid rate I know it is only a matter of time until we get to see even more detailed and beautiful ships in game. I would like my computer case to reflect that future vision of EVE.
Time is against me, as the LAN party fast approaches. I do not have luxury of time to wait, hoping for high polygon models to be released in game. I need to get started right away as I need to be done by July, and I expect to put many hours into building this case.
I do not intend to sell the case, and the most I stand to gain is winning a case mod contest. In any case I feel that it would serve as good publicity for a game that I have been a part of for the past 5 years. I would greatly appreciate it if CCP could help me out in this endeavor. |

I would definitely share photos. I plan on keeping a project log over on the Bit-Tech computer modding forums as I go along. |

Ah...I hate to tell you this, BUT...contacting someone DIRECTLY means you use a stamp, an envelope...you know, that kinda thing. E-mailing someone with a request like that? Tell me you aren't serious...or not. As if I care. Geez. "I e-mailed them, and they never wrote back!" If your mailbox isn't that tin thing nailed to the wall next to your front door, yeah the rusty thing...it's that funny shaped thing on a pole out by the street...the thing the wasps build nests in. Right. That thing. I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility toward every form of tyranny over the mind of man.-á |

All the best on your projects.
CCP is no Valve though, they have surplus chromosomes with regards to responding to ths type of thing unless it's a Sony directed PR stunt. EVE shall be purged by fire - please Gods let them ALL burn in Jita. |

I'd love to see the pics as you go along.
Although I have to ask, rather than OCDing (like I would) over it being perfectly true to the game. Why not use your artistic license and go with how it looks in the game based off best guess and a bit of blade runner (blade runner should be everyone's point of reference for future sci-fi).
Just an idea is all, might be quicker than waiting for CCP who'll probably get back to you soonGäó |

Might be a bit random, but go to www.ccpgames.com, find a contact number and try to call them. (After working out the timezone differences) Ask to speak to CCP Somethingorother?
It sounds like an awesome idea; so good luck with that!

I tried the marketing dept and they don't have the authority to grant access to that type of stuff. I would try calling their offices, but I am now coming to grips with the harsh realization that I just don't have enough time to make this case. More specifically I don't have the time to build it with as much detail as I want. I am going to have to make a "simple" case to start with for the LAN party and then I will rebuild the whole project later when I can devote the right time and attention to such an ambitious build(s).
So the new subject of focus is a Talos http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Talos I can still fit all of the requisite parts in it, and while the hull looks more complex, it will actually be easier to build around since I have more room to work with. I will not be adding all of the fancy electro-mechanical bits that I was hoping for. This means no turrets or actuated panels. I am also going to have to cut out most of my plans for fancy lighting systems, I may be able to add lighting in at the end if I have the time. I am also going to reduce the usage of more exotic build materials as I won't have the time to fabricate the molds or lay them up with carbon fiber. So I will be attempting to print most of the parts directly and then do some finish work to make them look acceptable.
I will be cramming in the following hardware: 1x PCI-E Videocard with EGPU adapter (actual card to be decided): This will allow me to use a desktop video card with my laptop. It will have limited bandwidth being only a 1x connection, but by tinkering with the Optimus drivers and enabling the compression I should be able to get 60-80% of the performance that the card would have with a 16x link. I already have the adapter. When I tried it out with my 460, my laptop was able to run BF3 like a champ.
1x 550 watt power supply: I had it lying around and I can easily modify it for my needs. It has more than enough amperage on the 12v rail for what I need.
1x Slimline DVD drive: (optional) I am still deciding between regular tray style or top loading.
1x USB HDD: (likely 640 GB) I will only be using this for large file storage as I have an internal 320GB mechanical HDD and 120GB mSATA SSD in my laptop.
1x Powered USB hub: (optional) It will tie into the USB bus that is a part of the express card slot. The optical drive and HDD will both plug into this. I only plan on using one at a time. The external HDD will just be for expanded storage, as all of my important files and programs are on the laptop's internal drives.
In the end there will be 3-5 cables attached: eGPU/USB data line Power 1-3 video out (depends on what card I can get) |

If you build this you can have my babies. (Also Talos > Naga anyway, visually at least) Support showing T2 and faction frequency crystal damage in the info window. |

Well I just got done doing some basic modeling and after looking at what I have to work with, this project is going forward!
I exported and scaled the model from EVE to see how big it would need to be to fit my components and it is HUGE. Initial estimates have me looking at a case that is about 465 mm wide, 245 mm tall, and 1035 mm long. Of course these numbers are subject to change as I tweak the design in the build process. I am definitely going to have to modify the model to a degree so I can fit everything in.
Also I have decided that I am going to ditch the idea of a Naga entirely. Such a case would be even longer than a Talos albeit more narrow. |
