I have a question about a new type of corporation.
Would you pay a monthly membership fee to be in a corporation.
For the monthly membership fee, you would have access to a large number of BPO's (100's) at different locations near the various trade/mission hubs.
The fee would be around 20M ISK per month, and there would be no corporation taxes.
The corporation is designed to attract players who want to get into manufacturing but don't have the capital to purchase all the BPO's required.
Mission runners may also be interested as 20M ISK per month would probably be less than a tax on bounties and mission rewards, and at the same time allow them access to BPO's (ammo or ships) required for mission running.
Leaving the actual mechanics aside, would there be an interest in this service?

I'd give a corp thief a week, maybe two, to ruin the whole thing. People in EvE generally suck.

All BPO's would be locked down. Players would have acces to use the BPO's but couldn't move or take them

Edited by: Apoctasy on 25/01/2009 05:10:48 It does sound like a good idea, but it might a damn while before you start making money, especially if you have bought/plan on buying "100's" of BPOs.
You also gotta make sure you have the BPOs people want, and to update your corp mates when new ones are available.

It can work if you're willing to do the BPO management yourself. Be paranoid and be smart, and I think it'll manage. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- PROPOSAL: Chaos Incarnate's Face MMORPG: Many Men Online Role Playing Girls |

That's pretty cool. It may be even more effective if you could also set it up in an ala carte sort of system. Say charge a certain amount to access ammo/drones, a bit more for cruisers, battleships are even more, or however. I'm not sure how the rules are regarding locking down bpos in different hangers, but it could be promising. Though ultimately with too much traffic, some of the main BPs would always be in use.

Edited by: Kushan on 25/01/2009 06:28:46 I think it's a great idea, not sure if it will actually work. Good luck with it, though. Luck probably won't help you any, though, so I suggest some good advertisement/promotion :P
*edit*
You think about taking it a step or two further? Set up POS, etc for copying/research/invention. Sort of like a fusion of Zzz + this idea + other stuff. You could be the one-stop place for newbie industrialists. This would lower the bar for entry quite a bit, and hopefully make the experience easier for new players - and (hopefully) quite profitable for you :) |

The problems with this idea:
1. Other than battleships and the covetor, no T1 BPOs are prohibitively expensive enough to justify 20m/month to access them.
2. Capital BPOs (And all the BPOs relevant to producing capitals) would be, but then you're talking about an investment in the 30-40Bn range (minimum) on your part, which would take a very, very long time before it became profitable.
3. Mission runners wouldn't touch this with a 40 foot pole. 20m is a drop in the bucket, definatly, but far far more than the price difference between pre-manufactured ammo and mineral costs of ammo. Equally, mission runners fly expensive ships - having a corp full of unknowns that are allowed to shoot them is a big no-no in the "Book of Paranoid Survival"
4. Unless someone is running 10+ jobs a month, they'd cut into their profits less to use BPCs than to pay your 20m fee. Not many solo noobs are going to be able to mine then build 10+ capital/battleship sized industry jobs in a month. If they're doing sub-BS/capital production, return to point 1.
It's an innovative idea, but honestly I don't see how it could be made to function as anything other than a charity. |

20mil a month would be to steep for those just entering the manufacturing aspect of eve.
a few reasons why:
low manufacturing related skills= inefficiency= lost profits
in 3 to 4 months you could have gotten the higher end cruiser bpo of your race.
20mil can buy you a lot of lower end, fast moving ammo/mod bpos and no need to share and once you have it you never have to pay for its use again.
near trade hubs means your going to be competing with the lowest possible profit margins and since most people in eve don't know how to add up the cost of minerals before making stuff the newbies are screwed. thats compounded by the inefficiency of their skills.
The idea is nice but unless your offering up something such as access to all BS bpos and guaranteed access at any time you feel like, its not likely going to be worth it for the newer players. Not to mention 20mil is a lot for the new guys.
I would suggest lowering the price of admission. i would actually suggest asking for a lump up front and then a reduced amount per month. 5mil a month with maybe a 10mil initial sign up fee would attract far more players.
i would also suggest mass producing low run, bpcs of researched bpos. maybe offer up an "introduction package" full of bpcs ready to go. maybe 1-30 runs per depending on how many people join and how many you can crank out in x amount of time without taking much time away from real research.
if you were to go with bpcs at least on the items that are quick to print then it would help lure in additional players since they can then make their goods anywhere they want and simply go pick up more bpcs when they need them. moving away from trade hubs would net the newbies more profit which would give them a chance to actually make the monthly fee amount + profit + hook them on the idea. |

If he restricted access based on fees paid, he could do such things as partial BP access, like say ammo&drones for 1m a month, frigs&destroyers for 5m a month, cruisers and BCs for 15m/mo and BS for 20m/mo.
If he went into cap ship components, he could certainly charge much more per month for access to those, but those are going to take a long time to research up. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- PROPOSAL: Chaos Incarnate's Face MMORPG: Many Men Online Role Playing Girls |
