Is a carrier over tanked in a level 5 or is it like a battleship in a lvl 4?

A carrier doing a lvl5 is most likely about to be ganked. |

A battleship in a lvl 4 is safer than a carrier in a lvl V, let me tell you that. In fact, you'd probably lose your carrier the first mission you try.

You take a carrier into the wrong mission...say....one with 8 neut towers 3...and you'll lose that carrier in a hurry I'd imagine. |

wow...
noone answered the question... I want to know now too lol. Is a carrier good for a lvl 5? can it tank a room? (I dont car about being ganked or any other lame comments. assume you are safe from outside interference)
Can a carrier, outfitted properly, tank and kill a room in a lvl 5? there would be lots of incoming dps, neut towers, ect. a good pilot can take out a few neut towers before they become too problematic.
so... yes? no?

There's something wrong with your post.

Do you see it yet?

Still no?
Quote: assume
You're in lowsec. Pirates know that a L5 agent is near or in that system. Pirates enjoy killing cap ships. How on earth can you assume that no roaming gangs will swing by and see you, or that no one will be camping the system randomly waiting for a mission runner?

then, my unhelpful friend, assume you are running a lvl 5 mission. there are NO roaming gangs in the area. you are in a territory that is controlled and regulated and protected by a much feared and viscous group of corps, and you are a member of that group. so you are SAFE FROM OUTSIDE INTERFERENCE.
now can someone answer the above question?

Here...let me qoute a few posts from this thread since you fail at reading.

Now for my own input from what I've read from the forums. It IS possible to do a couple of level 5s solo. However...It is very impratical and VERY risky. Risky with the rats and neut towers, and also for gankers, which you obviously seem to have no problem with.
If you're going to do Lvl5s, bring 2 DPS BS and Logistics support, using a Carrier for a level 5 is possible, but not worth the risk at all. NPC or Playerwise.

i can take out 4-6 neut towers and stasis towers, in my amar BC in enough time that i am not threatened in the 2 lvl 4 missions i have run with neut towers. I get that they are neut tower 3s, i understand that they act fast on a bs, a carrier is much bigger however. i have read this thread, i have read other threads. My goal is to buy a nyx. i am a lil ways off still, but it is a goal i have set. if a carrier is only useful in pvp, then whats the point? so, does anyone know what the answer is, yes or no? can a carrier or other ship of equal size, run a lvl 5 solo?
i ask, not the ppl who like to read the forums, but the people who own a ship of this size.
I also realize that there are not alot of people that can fly these ships well. i know i can not, and i have 25 mil sp. (and thats without the ships skill trained to even lvl 1 much less lvl 5)
so, to anyone who owns a ship of this or equal size, is it possible?

I guess you will just have to take your Carrier into a level 5 and please record it and show us the video.
All responses are saying NO! You have no idea how fast 8 neut towers kill your cap clearly these people do because they have done one or more lvl 5 missions before. Assuming you can just kill them all in time to recover your cap and keep on tanking the rest of the room is brave and according to the people who have tried not a wise asumption.
The few neut towers in a lvl 4 mission are very easy to kill they are basic versions of what you find in a lvl 5 where they have a lot faster shield regen and a lot more hit points. Can you kill them all in time? Won't the 20 odd battleships hanging out there kill your fighters before they take a single tower down? Again all previous posters are clear on this, you don't stand a chance, take a well tanked battleship and a good logistics ship into a lvl 5 and you will get out a live. Try the same with a carrier and you don't stand a chance at least that is what all the previous posters are saying... oh and thinking you are safe because you are in an uber l33t corp that completely controls that system... think again in the history of eve not a single group has been able to really control any system if a determined group of players wanted to get in there and kill everyone there it just happened regardless of how uber the corp holding that system was or thought they where. ------------------------------------------- Should you disagree with me, well I guess that is because I disagree with you. If you have a problem with that please feel free not to tell me. |

most lvl5s are gated.

First off, most L5's are not gated from my experience of running at least 30 of them, although we are pretty picky of our missions.
Secondly, the neut towers you find in level 4's do not even begin to compare to the ones found in level 5's . You will find your BS completely empty of cap withing 10 seconds of aggro. Your carrier will have died 5 times before you take out 1 of those neuting towers in your BC. And if there are repair stations repping the towers, you can make that 20 times.
Now, if you get a mission without neut towers, I would imagine a carrier could tank it fine, but I dont know seeing I dont own a carrier. 1 Dominix properly tanked and dual repping with logistic support can tank most all missions. |

Edited by: kushkan on 27/01/2009 09:25:27 got some straigh ansers for you
i been flying lvl5 for some time now
and it depends on wat mission you get if its gattet or not
gattet is a no go grab some friends couse you cant squise trough a carrier
for the rest its actully prety easy just be carfull wat you shoot and about those neut towers there overratet when your in a capital kill them first afcourse but the dont drain so fast at all (not all lvl 5 have neut towers)
so yes carrier can be used to solo lvl 5
altrough i should press to your hart either make sure every person in local set you blue or umm wait no there is no other way.... ensure it :P mostly lvl 5 are run in like overkill groups there fun and the LP is worth it (savety in numbers)

mm finally getting there. yes its possible and yes you could probably flak off neut towers fast enough. it comes down to which mission you have. some have more neut than others, some (plenty) have neuts as triggers. these variables means the answer is a definate maybe. know the ground ahead of time.

You can run level 5s in a carrier. Just make sure there are no gates and keep an eye on the scanner. |

The lvl 5 neut towers are usually countered by using a passive tanked command ship/BS with support. It easier.
If you run a lvl 5 and scout it and there is no gate, so you bring a carrier out. If you need to drop a cyno the pirates will come and look, and if it is a single mission carrier, then it is heading to the loss column.
If carrier is in system already and enters the lvl 5 it will still need support so why bother?
Command ship + logistics + DPS is easier

Agree with gnomer
Im sure a level 5 can be done with a carrier. But as I said before, certain missions have nasty neut towers and some respawn after you kill one.
One poster said they dont drain your cap that fast in a capital ship....hmmm....maybe not...but why chance it ? They will kill a BS's cap in around 10 seconds, and even with 3 or 4 DPS ships in there, the towers dont go down that quick.

If you know what you are doing then your carrier in the level 5 is quite safe.

So you fly for "XYZ" and control the area. ok. Carriers dont exactly have the fastest lock times but you are ok with this. ok. Your fit does not require cap to stay alive. ok Sure take the carrier in , after all it's only a game and you can always try again. |
