Aha! What about the key element of surprise? If we'd all turned up in Minmatar ships you would have beaten us.
Oh.
Well played, good fight and good luck next weekend. |

GF.
To be honest though, I'm surprised by all the people thinking the FW teams would fly the race of their faction. Also surprised at statements saying we don't have as much organization, experience, SP, etc. I heard experts and DJ's saying they thought the FW teams would have a hard time because we are all mission runners. Our factions are full of 30mil+ SP players that do nothing but pvp all day long just like in some of the big famous pvp alliances out there, and I would bet we actually get more small gang experience than you might in some of the bigger 0.0 alliances.
We are in this to win it, just like everyone else. We aren't going to use stabbers if we think sentries are the way to go. SOLAR went with a good setup to counter ours, plain and simple. GF to them, and see you all next weekend.

I've been going over and over again, what went wrong, why couldn't we bag them. EW was down first and no way if could have made it but "loosing EW" is a lame excuse. It boiled down to "warriors out, burn to a 100, switch to sentries"
I didn't call it. Hind sight is 20/20 no?

Unfortunately these partciularly well known "gang-bangers" of Minmatar Militia can't kill ships unless there are 30 of them in a gang, of stiletto's [Johannes Buckbeak and the Warp Disruptor II of doom, lol...]
Something that I have criticised them plenty for in the past. Having been the top solo killer in there for months on end I became totally disillusioned with their wholly "gang-banging" orientated approach, with the 30 ships doing about 3% damage each.
Their tactics of using Ishtars was entirely predictable and laced with a heady mixture of fail. Step forward Wei Evolon!
Many of the Minmatards didn't want to use this set-up and voiced their severe reservations before and after AND were subsequently told, and I quote, to "stfu" in Militia Channel.
If you have failure pilots, with failure leadership and a fail setup, well you fail!
Why do think the Amarr put holes in them time after time, with less bodies?
Is this not so? However as I told Minmatar Militia, "You get the leadership you deserve".
Happy now?

To be fair I gauged the reaction of Minmitar Militia to this huge setback AND to be perfectly honest they didn't have lot of positive things to say about the performance.
Should their voices be silent?
Though I understand the moderators wish to be even and whilst I respect that, the views of the individual on the ground must be accounted for.
Several people took hold of this project and it has fallen on it's knees. People are responsible. You look at the killboards and they read Wei Evolon, Neu Bastian, Johannes Buckbeak etc...
These are your responsibilities? Have you no honour? no pride? except to get the moderators to remove even the most benign comments?
Where are your ships annd your weapons?
You represent an honourable militia disgracefully.

Edited by: Kashimir on 30/01/2009 16:27:31 All I can say that in this tournament you can't really say that a drake is not a tournament ship. Drake can either have great tank and do nothing or have a nice tank and do some nice dps. And that was some nice dps from those drakes. Also the Minmatars didn't really fail on that one... they had a fairly good setup, it was just about going against paper fielding a rock. Only that there are fairly many papers against that particular rock.
Anyway, atleast it was fun to watch, GF. :) |

The week before the tournament, we do a lot of interviews. Naturally, we do a lot of predictions on how the tourney will go, and one of mine this year, was that the faction militas were going to be extremely underrated, and I've had the Gallente militia going to the final weekend since before we started. I know not all commentators agreed with me before the tourney, but I've certainly been talking up the faction militias for awhile now. |

It may be worth noting that a large precentage of the time in the last round, the ewar-spec friggates have been getting primaried and alpha-popped, perhaps rightly so. Meanwhile teams that spread their ewar out among the non ewar-spec ships (damps on ishkurs and ishtars for example) have seen success with it. If you're going to use things like Griffins, Maluses and electronic attack ships, you're going to have to fit and fly them in a manner that increases their survivability, which is going to be hard when you consider they're pretty paper-thin.
As for not flying Minmatar ships, yeah you risk predictability but with other teams flying Minmatar-focused setups (Even ones you'd excpect, like Ushura'Kahn) and doing very well with them, why not play to the Minmatar's strengths a bit? -----------------------

We didn't play to Minmatar's strengths because we played to Gallente's. That was the point I was trying to make. I felt that our being in the Minmatar militia should have zero to do with the ships we fielded. I agree that minmatar have strengths, but there is only extra reason for us to play to them if there is extra reason for every other team to, and since this game is balanced so well, there was no extra incentive to us to do that.
Soundwave- Yeah, I know some of you didn't say that, I don't remember which ones did, I just definitely remember hearing that sentiment being expressed.
My perspective on that fight was that we incorrectly allocated basically all of our offense. The Ishtars were told to primary the griffins, then move to the drakes. The Ewar split the drakes up as even as possible. The result: The ewar on the drakes was futile due to either them having enough sensor boosters for it to not matter, or them shooting F.O.F., not sure which, but it failed. On top of that, the sentries deployed by the Ishtars was a waste of our dps. It wasn't very effective and took too long. By the time we were moving on to the drakes, we only had 3-4 Ishtars left...not enough dps to take plural drakes down before they took the rest of our team down. Swap the responsibilities and I think we may have won, or at least come a lot closer.
Oh well. |
