Is this a symptom of the increased trit prices? I've scanned system after system in the Derelik region, and nearly none of the belts are what I'd consider 'fit' to mine. All of them contain roids that will clearly pop in 1-2 at most strip cycles.
I was just wondering if there's anywhere out there yet in high-sec with the large veldspar I used to know and love. It is nearly a waste of time to bring a fully skilled command booster, 3 near-perfect hulks, and an orca to bear on these tiny little roids.
Guess it's time to bite the bullet and just make do with what there is.

I usually get 1.5, if I'm lucky 2.5 pulls on a fully speced Hulk. Its been quite some time since I've found better in HS.

Edited by: Amandrace on 26/01/2009 13:16:00 Since yesterday, I've branched out farther into Derelik, still no sign of my quarry. I've gone from Tash-Murkon to the bitter reaches of Kanid space, and system after system, the belts tell the same sad tale. I think the days of seeing a veld roid larger than my hulk are a thing of the past, until either more regions are added, or the trit hype dies down.
For now, it's time to buckle up and glean what little residual veld there is.
Edit: I guess low-sec is the only real alternative. However, that would entail ditching my near-perfect setup for some T1 barges and no orca. Add to that the paranoia of scanning local like a hawk, and the pain in the ass of hauling trit out without a freighter, and I just don't see the cost-effectiveness over even these miniscule high-sec belts.

Why work without an Orca or Freighter?
Even in low-sec if you keep a decent guard with you and stay aligned to a POS or Station you should be fine.
Also to move the freighter quickly, just use an interceptor w/ 1-2 Webifiers to help the freighter warp faster. |

You do know you can spawn more or less infinite amounts of private Veldspar in any system with a level 1 agent in it, right?

Yeah, but how much will that give me? A dozen medium sized roids, a handful? Would a lvl one gate even let an orca in? |

Edited by: Zarroh on 26/01/2009 17:16:06 Mining was far too easy until now... I am looking forward to people using their brains instead of complaining... Can't wait for the new mining approach CCP might/is working on... It should also reduce the amount of macro'ers.
Besides, there are enough places with big 'roids... you just need to scout for them. Sounds like work, huh? |

Yes most Level 1 mission gates will let in any size ship.
In the missions I mine I usually get 1-2 Belts with around 500,000 m3 (~80-90 roids) of ore in them (Veld, Plag and Pyrox for the area I am in) |

Someone was looking at the wrong belts in Derelik.
My crew mined 16 mill veld there over the weekend along with a ton of scordite and pyroxeres. |

theirs only 3 missions I know of that restrict shipsizes, (WC and Airshow are two, I cant remember the other) but thoes dont seem to have mutch thats minable anyway. |

Well I mine often. I don't have trouble finding large asteroids.
The awesome belts are out there and you don't need to run a mission do find them. |

In my region I see Veldspar and Scordite (among others) asteroids the size of stations. The things are huge. Now, with the going rate of the resulting minerals, I can't make a good profit compared to everything else.
But wait. Can I sell those minerals at a higher price because I'm the only jerk mining them?
Yes.

Consult Ombey's 2D maps -- there are plenty of systems out there. 0.5's and such, with no stations and little to no pilot activity of any kind, so these are your best bet. Should be no problem at all if you are employing an Orca.

Edited by: Amandrace on 27/01/2009 12:26:49 I'm not too concerned any more. I found a nice pocket to mine in, but really the latest expansion info has me more excited than anything.
Even if I don't strike out and head for the w-space, there's still going to be 2500 systems added. And plenty others will. That means less people in stale current 0.0, more people move out from lowsec. Less people in low sec, more people move out from empire. Alot of the pvp I'd be willing to bet is gonna shift to the new w-space, since you have a chance of catching people in good ships capable of ratting the tech 3 enhanced ai-npcs.
All in all, it's a win situation for everyone, adding this many systems will greatly relax the population expansion pressure, for the time being. And maybe we'll see belts bloom to their full potential once again.
