Been wanting to ask this for a while as I am sure other Explorers have this happen.
Jump into a system, get a hit mith a multispec probe, load up appropriate quests, switch to solar system map, hit the Tactical Overlay icon so that I can start planning my drops and ......fail. No Tactical overlay. Spam the TO button, flip back and forth from star map- to solar system map and back to in game view...bupkiss. Emoragequit, here's my stuff.
The only thing that I found that works is logging off and then back on. Anyone know a fix for this?

Happens to me as well, not a lot, but enough to cause aggravation. Must be an undocumented feature.

Wow, learn something new everyday. I have never use it, been doing this long enough as not worry about starting. All you need to do is warp to a planet and mouse over the other planets and you get a more accurate distance.

Never knew about it, never needed it before. Just solar system map view is plenty information for dropping probes and making mid-warp bookmarks.
Suck it up wee man.

Tactical Overlay makes exploring EASY
It's a cache thing - want to screw thing ups, dock and undock and dock with the map open

I figured everybody used the Tactical Overlay. For me it is much easier to use that as I can get a quick visual reference as to distances, but I see that the other methods people have described work just as well or better.

I dont see the tactical overlay in that first pic??
What tactical overlay looks like for explorers.
It basically is there to help you judge distances. So you can tell where might be best to drop the quest for example.
