Is it cheaper and better to get a corp to insure most of its members ships and give it back, or for the member them self to insure it? |

it's actually best to use one of the player run insurance contracts. just contract me the ships along with 1/10th the ship mineral cost, and i'll send back to you fully insured.

I have actually wondered about this concept myself, having heard of a few corps that do ship replacement insuring the ships for the pilot. Will be watching this thread with interest...

It works for stuff like fleet battleships. My corp issues them out, and gives the isk to insure the ship, then if it is lost, the pilot will send the insurance isk back to the corp.
Sorta like what you're talking about I guess.

Corp insurance is similar to regular insurance except in corp insurance, the corp pays the premium and the corp gets the payout if the ship is destroyed.
To ôcorp insureö the ship, drop the ship in corp hanger and click on the ôinsuranceö button like usual and you should see ship in both yours and corp hanger.
Select the ship in the corp hanger and you be informed that you are insuring the ship for the corp and anyone in the corp can fly it insured. The cost of insurance is automatically deducted from corp wallet and when destroyed, the corp auotmatically gets the isk.
Corps can give pilots pre-insured ships so that when they are blown up, the corp get the insurance payout instantly

If the corp builds/buys the ship and insures it for corp and then the pilot buys that ship from the for the insurance cost only its a win for both sides.
When the ship gets popped the isk goes back to the corp wallet and then theres more isk to buy more ships. If the Corp built those ships they will be making a profit for the corp as well. |

This has pretty much been my experiance. keeping up to date on who has insured ships takes minor paper work but not much. Done properly a corp insured battleship program can lead to a free battleship program for its members it just takes the little bit of :effort: that usually kills the ship programs.
Special note: You get an eve mail when one of your members decides to scam you and repackage said corp insured ship so you will know when a member decides to try to take advantage of your ship programs. |
