Expanding on the "I want to see whos buying/selling" idea, why not implement an Ebay style "rank the seller/buyer" system. Then you can see that Mr XXX has sold stuff 545 times and his average ranking is 4.5 stars etc etc.
It would only be a single pop up form that we would fill in upon a successful buy/sell.

I agree. Making it possible to see a simplified trade history for the seller, would reduce risks enourmously. It's also a natural development for any trade institution.
One thing, though: The rating should not be per sale, but per buyer. I.e. it should not be possible to boost your trade rating by selling one unit of tritanium (or any other item, for that matter) to a friend a lot of times.
I also think it should be possible to see who the seller is. But that would require another feature: that you are able to select which seller to use for your needs. If two people are selling the same item, you should be able to choose which one to buy from (even though this might entail a higher price).

I was thinking that the buyer would rank the seller and the seller would rank the buyer.

this will sadly still be open to weenie griefers.
I know it's hard to comprehend, but the willingness of some retards to spend hours/days/weeks working on cheesy scam exploits is truly something to behold.
Make something nice, and some***** will try to exploit it. It's the way of the internet.
*edit* I do like the idea though, but as far as I can see, there is no way of stopping the weenie grief. And as such, the numbers will be best-guess, at best.
I suppose you could only have one vote per player->player. ie. I gave Mr.x a rank 6 when I bought from him last week, but this week, he went out of his waay to get me some crap, practically cutting his own throat to get the price I wanted. So I can change his rating to an 8 or something.
Another way would be to get an average of all the PC standings people have given him. In fact, this would be the easiest. If someone does you good, raise your standing towards them (I do anyway, in case this sort of thing comes in in the future)

well this should probably work.
You should be able to rank a buyer/sell during the trade session. and once the trade is completed. the stats are added to your session. ofcourse when you are trading you can't see what you rank each other.
grievers still remain a problem that way, but i don't deal with grievers. do you? and when you have 100 times ranked a 4/5 then a 1 / 5 would defeatnely take notice and nobody would care about it.

To avoid most griefing you would need to make it only possible to use on the successful transfer of something between characters and then only to the 2 characters involved in the transfer.
And I agree, An excellent suggestion!

Problems with this:
Unscrupulous people would buy from a competing corp, just to be able to "down-rank" them.
This would not stop the scamming, in the Frozen Plant Seeds scenario, it would just go like this:
1) You buy the forzen plant seeds, and rate the seller "5 stars", since you actually got your product.
2) You go to sell your frozen plant seeds, only to find that the buy order has been withdrawn.
3) You curse your luck, since you can't change the ranking you gave the scammer.
Not only that, but you would have to add a second layer of weightings to the ranking system, so that if a player was rated by someone you don't trust, or whose opinion doesn't matter to you, then that rating is ignored, whereas if a player was rated by someone whose opinion matters a great deal to do, then that rating would be MORE important than average...

It seems there would be many ways to fool the system and generate either a false positive or negative rating. Judgment or reputation should come into play on some of these decisions. Attempting to use a specific system could wind up effecting innocent characters just as much as legitimate scammers.
One good way to help out would be to know the age of the character in the game. For someone who has been playing a character for a month or more and training such a character, it would be doubtful they would attempt to pull scams with that character as the reputation would be a long and standing one. Instead they would create an alternate. If we knew the age of the character we were dealing with, it would help us to generate our own opinions on the character. For instance if a three (3) day old character wanted you to join into a transaction where you need to put lots of money upfront (like a blueprint joint purchase), it would more likely it was a fraud than if the character was three (3) months old.

Its very simple, just allow a player to access minimal information on the seller, 1: name of seller, ought to be implemented as it, it feels realy silly that I should not be able to see who is selling stuff to me in advance.
2: how long the char has been active, if you have a bid to buy worth 200k placed by a 10 min old char you might just suspect that somthing is amiss.
As for people that place bogus buy orders... trainingtime is not individual for the three chars, why not make the fines for placing bogus orders on the account if the char is deleted.
That would meen a player who creates chars to scam will be hit by the fine no matter what, if the fine is then set high enough the scam must be so obvious to make it prosperous a person who would fall for it deserves it :)
