for me, I place a lot of buy orders, and I usually place them regionwide, so I don't care about what solar sytem I'm in, I only need to be in the region. I don't know if it is at all possible in the game, maybe it might take too long to calculate, but it would be nice to be able to set a region as destination and that it would give you the shortest route to that region, without looking at solar systems, just the smallest amount of jumps to any system within that region.
thank you,

Shouldn't be that hard with the current map and bookmarks. Use Ombey's maps and locate the system that the first station system after the region jump gate is located. BM each system then look at your People and Places, sort by region (i think that's possible) then you can see how many jumps each system is. |

true, but that means making a whole lot of bookmarks, which I did once, but having so many bookmarks really slows down your client big time |

no more than it has in the past when everyone had 15km bookmarks for every gate... |

i like it! i like this idea alot!!!
to set shortes path to the region would help scanning regional markets much easier i mean you only have 2 alts so you can only cover so much area and this would greduse unessessary jumps to a system and it would reduce all the time invested in map to find what you think may be nearest region system but may not be.

yeah, in the past everybody had a lot of bookmarks, and in the past people accepted it as normal that things were so slow, but not anymore. but we're getting side-tracked here, I know that this (bookmarking) is an altenative for it, but my question is, can it (setting a region as destination) be implemented in the game?? |

Shortest route "Solarsystem to region" should be doable. Overall shortest route between multiple regions starting in a specific solar system most likely not (educated guess, didn't do the math:))
I know you didn't request the second "feature", but given how the routing feature seems to work, they'd probably go about it by adding a new type of waypoints for regions. Then, to be consistent, the UI would have to allow the second "feature" because people would naturally assume they can define multiple region way points or even mix them (since there just "waypoints" to the user). Now imagine somebody entering 10 regions in the autopilot and then hitting the "Opimize route button". I would assume that calculation might run for a couple of years :-)

yeah, I see what you mean, and like I said in the original post I can see how it might take too long to calculate. what might be possible is that when you set a region as destination, it calculates the route and then places the destination system in your routeplanner . so if then you add another region as waypoint it will calculate the route from that previous destination system to the next region, and then again sets that solarsystem as waypoint in your routeplanner.(so you get a route that consists of "normal" system waypoints)
I know that this will probably not get you the shortest overall route if you want to set a route to more then one region, but like I said, I could see that even calculating shortest route to one region (as there are a lot of systems in just one region) might take long to calculate, so I understand that even optimizing the route to 2 regions will probably take way too long |

I would like a button that could calculate the shortest way if you have 2 or more waypoints. |

Open that up in game and it will show you the shortest path from your current location to every other region if im not mistaken.
Guess it doesn't work, oh well. |

didn't know about such a kind of application, but even if such an application would work it still would be nice to just be able to set a region as destination ingame. and if such a (working) application would exist, then I guess CCP should be able to implement something like that in the game, not? |

I'd also welcome this feature. The optimize path not always returns the shortest path to the region. There easily could be a shortest path that leads you to the region, then setting a system (like pretty often the trade hub of the region) and trusting AP. This could save a few jumps for traders, and that'd be neat if you're using orders in multiple regions.
