You have two hours. These two hours do not reset when you add more items to the container.
Happens quite a lot. Waht you can do is create a new container and transfer the ore from one to the other :)

I've seen em pop in under two hours. I believe Pann made a post that indicated it was a random amount of time between 1 and 2 hours.
And like Disco said, usage doesn't make a difference. You can have the container open and be staring at it and it will still pop if it wants to.
Rotate your cans every 30 mins or so and you should be golden, shouldnt take more than an extra few seconds and could save you a fair amount of work.

Hi,
hehe. Happened to me too, cause I wasn't playing the last 3-4 weeks of beta.
10005 omber exploded right next to me.
Meanwhile show info is showing proper information about the life time of containers.

Now this is just great. How good that you can read about this container behaviour on every corner.
I just lost 6 hours of mining because such a freaking container decided to disappear. Not explode, or anything. I just closed it, it was there, I left the belt to fetch my indy, then I get back and it's gone. 6 freaking hours.
Don't say the game world is persistent when it is, as a matter of fact, not persistent.
Ciao, Aronis!

I suppose none of the people whining (again) about how things went bad for them actually thought to look at the info on the container they're putting all their "wealth" in?
Damnation - if it isn't someone whining about m0o or some "nerf" on their precious loadout it's somebody being dumb and shoving ore into something they haven't even looked at!
Stop moaning and DEAL with it!
If something doesn't work for your style of play then adapt for god's sake! eg - (just for Axelay) m0o is kicking your arse? Well move away from them, find out how they're doing this and also where they tend to be when only one or two of them are online, rearm accordingly and go back and kick theirs when you're ready :)
What do you people want for god's sake - the devs to deliver a game that is perfect for every player?

I mined 30000 omber yesterday in one container without it blowing up. It must have taken me about 2 hours. Guess I was lucky. :)

In beta containers stayed for days. Imagin what the game would run like if that was still the case. I've left belts with 30 or so containers in them and thats less then 2 hrs work...... You'd never be able to warp into a belt without pirates killing you wile you lagged.
who puts 6 hrs worth of ore into a container and never goes for an indi run? What if some dumb ass showed up and blew it up? or if an indi showed and took it all. Fact is if you put more then 2 hrs worth of ore into a container your a fool anyway and should lose it.

I know that the capacity isn't as much, but would a cargo container that you have to buy as opposed to the container that appears when you jettison cargo disappear?

No, store bought cargo containers do not dissapear. Ever, as far as I can tell. I haven't checked in the last week or so (intend to when I get home), but I had a medium and a small cargo container bought off the market floating around a moon in my home system for more than 2 weeks.
Unfortunately, medium containers only hold 240 m3 and smalls only contain 90 m3, so you'd need a good 22 containers floating nearby just to equal the load of one tricked out Indy. Possibly when large containers make it in, they'll be slightly more practical. Maybe 1000 or so?
