Red colored dots/stars are scary.
Reverse the security colors, make 0.0 a nice friendly light blue and 1.0 a frightening red and everyone will flee high sec and gravitate towards the happier colors.
I know id much rather see assortments of blue and green than red or an ugly orange when i plot a course to somewhere or other.
You may laugh, but this is serious, its is not helping the matter and subconsciously all sorts of people avoid low/no sec only because the color of the dots.

Also, stop signs and ambulance lights should be made green and light blue. Alarming and dangerous colours like red and orange should never be used to denote potentially alarming and dangerous situations. Thanks for your attention to this matter.

You don't understand, this is not a joke.
Ive been playing mmos for a long time. And im telling you that populations would not be so imbalanced with reversed colors.
For the longest time i never went below 0.3 because i just couldn't handle the colors more menacing than orange.

That's kinda the point.
Red is pretty much the international colour of danger, and 0.0 is dangerous if you don't know how to handle yourself.
Get some way to support yourself and find yourself a good corp that has access to 0.0 space.
It's dangerous out here yes, but EVE really comes into it's own as a community game when you have to rely on other people to come together to protect the space and support each other.
For me, 0.0 is my secluded shack in the woods where I can enjoy myself as I please, and empire is those annoying trips into civilisation I need to make every so often to stock up on supplies

Edit:
if you ask me high sec is more dangerous because you don't expect it to be dangerous.
and 0.0? You have less chance of being killed in deep friendly territory in 0.0 than you do being randomly suicide ganked in 1.0
Obviously the whole thing is backwards and CCP should implement my suggestion immediately. |

LowSec / NullSec being dangerous is no joke either ... so if you want them to get a green icon then those regions would have to become safe first
man, seems like you've been taking boosters or so ^^
Compare the number of lost ships/pods in High/Low/Null and the number of pilots - i think it'll be quite obvious where it's safe and where not. |

Try adjusting your monitor settings and inverting the colours. |

Lowsec is perfectly safe, nosec is only slightly annoying due to warp bubbles, but as long as you aren't trying to move between empire and 0.0 or going places you shouldn't you don't really have to worry about those... Actually, NPC 0.0 is somewhat dangerous i suppose, but there is no reason to be there at all unless you are some kind of weirdo who just HAS to run missions for some pirate faction or other.
There is really no reason for these harsh colors.
Make high sec an ugly color and people will move to low sec.
The only real risk in either is if you are flying something stupidly expensive that you shouldn't be flying. And i will point out that more mission running billion isk ships have been suicide ganked in high sec than have ever been lost lower, because lower nobody uses them, because they are frivolous and not cost effective due to the increased chance of exploding. Therefore high sec is the most dangerous sec ever.
Make 0.0 blue, come on ccp! Do it! |

Edited by: Clementina on 29/01/2009 13:03:00 I've heard a variation of this argument before and it makes a certain kind of sense.
A corpmate of mine said that Red and Orange should be colors for alliance and friendlies, with the red and Orange standing for 'Don't Shoot', Meanwhile Green should be the color of hostiles, meaning 'It's Okay to Shoot Now'. Such a color scheme would also bias you towards attack rather than running away.
CCP doesn't actually need to do anything. I would invert the colors on my overview, except I'm too used to the standard colors. But you could invert yours if you like. |

I don't go to 0.0 because I'm not in an alliance, nor do I ever care to be. They could make the dots an attractive shade of neon chartreusse, as far as I'm concerned; I still won't go there. Going to a place where pilots' mentality is to gank me just because they can doesn't seem like a fun aspect of the game.
I play to relax, not to be more paranoid than in real life. |

Is this like the, "why are smurfs blue?" argument?
Mental perception in the case of low sec and 0.0 is actually not enough in eve.
Red really doesn't encompass the amount of pain I'm going to inflict on a lonely raven in 0.0. It really is a shame.
Something along the lines of flashing combined with sirens and giant bloody "headshot" type letters with a giant billboard showing my corp mates playing cards on the well preserved corpse of a caldari isk farmer.
yeah i think that would do.... Stop, hammer time. |
