I've played EvE off and on for quite a while now, I have a good understanding of ship builds/roles ect and a decent income stream from mission running. My skill set leans towards noncombat but I've got everything I need for frig/cruiser/BC operation.
At the end of the day I enjoy PVP much more than PVE, however aside from getting poped at a few gate camps in my first few months I haven't been involved in any "real" pvp. My problem is finding targets.
I've tried scaning in low sec, I've tried defending nodes and attacking nodes in FW. I've joined the FW fleet on many occasions, made all the jumps and just end up sitting around playing cat and mouse for the most part, no one wants to engage w/o overwhelming force. I understand.
Personally I prefer small scale group or solo PVP anyhow. If I have my choice I'd just PVP solo when I get the itch. However a lack of targets is bumming me out. I'm not picky either, I'll deal w getting owned as long as I'm entertained. I operate primarily out of Hek if that's relevant.
Any help, suggestions, systems? |

This is a hard topic. If you have a good day flying in 0.0 you can find some ratting ravens / whatever BS in a belt, but there is no real way to ensure that. You seem to fly solo (solo = 1 ship) and this is a very tough thing as most players either gang up or fly with multiple accounts (= those dont fly solo).
I had some good runs in 0.0 in my vagabond catching 3 BS until I got popped in a gate camp. But imho there is no pattern... |

The easiest way to find targets may be using a faction cruiser. However, I am afraid you'll get more targets than you can handle solo
On a more serious note, having a prober is highly beneficial. You might wanna try joining one of the many pirate corps out there. Alternatively you can just train an alt, but that will take a fair bit longer.
Without a prober it requires much more patience. There are still miners and ratters in losec, but be aware that most of them are bait. If a hulk puts a point on you there might be something ugly coming your way. With a bit of luck you might meet another solo pilot looking exactly for the same type of old fashioned fun.
Another alternative - and the quickest one, except for the faction cruiser idea, probably - is can flipping in hisec. Somewhere here you'll find a guide dealing with that - you may want to check it out.
If you're flying around Hek you may want to get in touch with the local pirates there. The Bastards are pretty active in this area and I've heard Kane Rizzel is always up for a 1v1

Edited by: Akiba Penrose on 29/01/2009 19:46:39 Here is a few tip from the top of my head, to get you started.
1. Pick a T1 frig/cruiser and fit it to fight just on ship group, and hunt those. (This seems even more important now after speed change.)
2. Be patient. If your rushing things its much harder to pick good fights, and a lot easier to get ganked.
3. Make your target believe he is hunting you.
4. Be aware of those who use Falcon alts.
Good luck

Sit outside stations and belts and wait for people to come to you. Works for me |

My example - had a Golem fol lvl4 mission running, decent income, easy tanking. I take a lvl4, have two companions and we are doing a mission. Suddenly a Minnie probe warps in - ok, i think, its a ninjasalvager and will take salvage, happened many times. This time, he takes LOOT and is flashing red. I lock and load, give him a fair volley and he jumps out. Five minutes later he is back in a ubertanked command ship, scrambling me, jamming me. We were pounding him for 10 minutes before my juice ran out and killed my Golem.
So: scan for wrecks, estimate opposition, get aggression, change ship, return to site, kill them all. |

How do you make them queue up to be killed? When I'm doing that I get more than I wanted

FW is now a good thing for it, but without the fleet thing if you didn't like it, just sign up and go, sooner or even sooner you'll find sth. From the Gallente - Caldari front probably the Villore - Tama pipe is the place to play. As na average I would say that there is about 200 kills every day, so there must be sth in it don't you think? ;) ________________________________________ Under construction. |

the whole point is to kill a couple before you die, because you will die eventually but at least you will go with a smile on your face.
Forget lowsec, take something able to survive small gatecamps and be able to kill a ratting bs (vaga? pilgrim?). Head to 0.0 Your key skill here will be speed. You need to move in and out of constellations/regions before the comm channels are full with your link in them. Get into a solarsystem and practice the art of finding someone in a belt in 30 secs. That's the most important skill right there. It usually takes a few seconds for people to notice you in local and a couple seconds before they decide to warp off and cloak. In that time you need to have spotted their belt in 5-15 degrees on the scanner and being in warp to them. Proceed to gank. Leave the area fast before his friends show up.
Rinse and repeat. It does take a LOT of practice.

No idea, I may just be exceptionally lucky. But most of the time I get attacked by multiple targets, there is no avoiding it. Sometimes i defeat greater numbers sometimes i die to em, its all down to lady luck

1. Fly a ship that can engage a wide range of different hostiles effectively. 2. Appear weaker than you are. 3. Strike with suprise and speed. 4. Make intensive use of all intel tools at your disposal to find likely targets. 4. Separate hostiles from their friends. 5. Fight at spots where its difficult for hostiles to call in aid. 6. Use superior firepower to destroy hostiles before help arrives. 7. Be prepared to lose a lot of ships, and face a lot of challenging fights.
If you appear to be undergunned, undermanned or at an (apparent) disadvantage, you'd be surpised how many hostiles are willing to engage you. Cookie cutter setup are your bane. People judge their odds to beat you based on cookie cutter setups and cookie cutter skills.
Be paper, appear a scissor, and all stones you meet will throw themselves at you.
