The idea of salvaging drones is nice .. http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=459607
But... If you think of it, after doing two or three havens. Someone either you or a corp mate has to salvage. And doing it can be a tedious thing.
Now we do have the Noctis and that did speed up the salvaging a lot. No more runnin around in that destroyer.
But lets make the noctis a little more automated. IE, land on grid and you initiate "auto" salvaging.
The only thing you have to do is get and stay in range. Now i dont propose a thing like macro salvaging.
More or less a feature that lets your noctis drag and salvage the wrecks in range.
Reason. When we do a corporate anomaly runnin day, we tend to do 6 of them in a row. Its a drag that you have to salvage em afterwards. And most of the time we dont even bother in salvaging.
Pro Players will salvage more often. T1 rig prices should drop, as in more available.
Cons At the moment i dont see any negatives about this.

Cons Your suggestion seems overly automated to me. IMHO - you should have to do "something" to get your loot other than just show up and have it auto populate into your cargo hold. Just like Auto-Pilot doesn't warp you to Zero on a Stargate, you should have to be "at the helm" for it to get optimum performance.
Personally I don't mind salvaging and find the Noctis to be a Near-Perfect tool as is. Great range (70k+) on the tractor beams, fast salvaging. My only gripe with the Noctis is that it is Very Clicky because I'm processing through wrecks so fast.
4x T2 Sm Tractors, 4x T2 Salvagers = Awesome I'll run missions on one character and have the Noctis on a second in the room I just finished clearning. I usually finish salvaging before I finish killing.

Salvage Drones are for PVP drone ships to pack them in to salvage T2 loot while they are still roaming

caroline,,
yess im aware of that |"automated" (but i dont know how to explain it differently)
And i agree that you dont want a "loot all" button and the noctis goes on its way. But .. someting similar.. Just to make it more streamlined and faster/eazy to do.

Sorry, but Salvaging is and should not be an agressive act. It it looted as well this would turn it into an agressive act.
BTW, i am not a ninja slavager, but I think the game is a more interesting place because this career exists.
As for the OP's 'Automatic Salvaging', I do not agree with this either.... sounds to me like he wants to be able to have an alt ship follow him around to hoover up the loot/salvage but not actually take the trouble to do the salvaging or looting.

this sounds like a buff to alts and a (boredom) nerf to anyone who is salvaging without an alt. |

Untill they are on test server and I can see how much the chance is on them I view salvage drones as a bobble. Though with the meta 0 removals there will be alot of empty wrecks soon and no need to tractor might make them better than a 6 km T2 salvager. |

Remove salvage from player wrecks (as well as module drops )and decrease the salvage from NPC wrecks. Exploration sites should be the main source. PVP ship combat is a sink, it shouldn't be profitable at all and no, you don't need to gank a freighter for lootz just deny the other guy getting it to market and beat him with your own products. Problem solved, less abilities to make income and more risky sinks once your undock. |

I would have thought this before, but now with tweaks, T2 salvage isn't that common, or abundant, the magsites are pretty good at the T2 salvage, so I don't mind. |
