Some guy in local was complaining about getting killed repeatedly "specifically mentioning an ex-corpmate" in local. I made a comment that I quite like and think is very relevant to the state of EVE.
DubanFP > Don't take it personally if someone from EVE tells you you should probebly quit. Quite frankly, some people can't handle the style of EVE and still have fun.
DubanFP > If you want a game where you need to be mature enough to admit your mistakes and try to learn from them for the future instead of crying about it to no productive means, play EVE.
DubanFP > if you want the game to hold your hand with no real consequence when you do screw up or repeat the same mistakes, play WoW. Don't just play EVE because its an MMO set in space, you'll regret that.
Does anyone agree or disagree? Lets discuss. |

Diasgree.
The only thing making this is horrible game is the playerbase who believe everyone else should be thier pewrsonal corpse maker. You all want want Mega-frag in space. This is not some random FPS where you log in and start shooting everything until you die and respawn.
Until the players get thier act together (and stop using WoW as an excuse that people actually enjoy leaving twits out of thier games), there's nothing to compare. The game is fine, the players are wrong.

Yup, everyone else is wrong. All of the players and even CCP are wrong. To quote a lead developer named CCP Wrangler

mmm. EVE isn't meant for mass appeal, its supposed to be niche. _______________

The guy could have used his hearthstone, erm, I mean jump-clone, to prevent getting his arse handed to him over and over. And if he doesn't have one, tough t*tty, he should have thought about that earlier.

the fact that "EVE is not for everyone" is what makes EVE a great game.
it is complex and deep, with lasting consequences and rewards. there is an actual risk involved where assets and months of gameplay can be easily lost by stupid mistakes.
EVE is a sandbox, while most other MMO's are more like rock gardens...
- in a sandbox, the goal is to build a community sand castle, and the sand is just a building material.
- in a rock garden, the goal is to collect rocks for yourself, and the community is just a tool for obtaining them.
the real game content of EVE is largely made by the players themselves, via alliances, industry and commerce, wars, etc. although for some, this also gives the game a bland feeling... since all the sand castles are made of the same sand. but overall, unlike other games, where the player community is a tool to master the game content, the opposite is true of EVE. many players fail to understand this and end up playing mostly solo or hopping from corp to corp, never satisfied.
for example, in WoW or similar MMO's, guilds form solely to complete specific goals, like leveling, raid content, etc. the goals of each individual are shared with the group, and they only stay with the group because of the potential rewards they may receive as an individual (ie- epic loot). basically, these guilds are merely tools used to achieve the goals of individuals.
but in EVE, the purpose of the player community is reversed. the overall goal of a typical corp is not to focus on some specific task or individual reward, but for the success of the corp itself. the corp members work as a team to use the game content to achieve a larger corp goal, such as conquering an area of 0.0 space or even rendering in-game services to other corps, like POS logistics or blueprint research. overall, the game content itself is not the goal, but rather the means to achieve the goals of the corp.
therefore, the net result of all this is: "to truly experience EVE, join a corp".
but not every player wants to commit to a team objective, and much prefer to collect a garden of rocks instead of building a sand castle. they will find EVE lacking content, but many try to collect their epic loots anyway. and it is these same "rock collectors" that cry on the forums when their officer-fitted CNR gets blown up.

there was a certain period of time in starsiege, where all the deathmatch servers were universally acknowledged as being 'hang out and duel people' servers. people would just join to chat or mess around with their config and fight other people to test them, the real fights were the team deathmatch servers, deathmatch was more like a lobby. if anyone just started ganking randomly the entire server would turn against them and hunt them down.
It was the one time in my entire video game career were ive seen an entire community realize that just because pvp was turned on doesn't mean you have to go around shooting everything. It did not last that way for long. A fond memory though ^_^
I think eve is fine, other than 0.0 is too safe.
Buff amarr.
