eh, kinda, Railguns though, iirc have the longest range of any weapon type in the game + railguns have excellent tracking, it actually gets better the farther the target is out to as well i believe
i once got sniped at i believe 200km by a megathron, so, nice little range you got there
blasters for damage, railguns if you want to stay far away, but your target better also be willing to stay and fight (you cant tackle past 25km, lol) or you better be able to one shot them |

Your tracking stays the same, but as the target moves away, their angular velocity in degrees (or radians) drastically diminishes making them easier to track.
Blasters do have better tracking IIRC, but it'd pay to check the ingame descriptions as I use neither and may be talking out of my ass -_-
Reason you see blasters in PvP ships is because you're going to need to be <24km away to get a point on a target, and blasters are higher DPS meaning you'll kill quicker once in range. Railguns on the other hand are extremely useful for sniping if in gangs etc. |

Thetre is no one answer, it all depend on the scenario and tactic you want to use. For normall PVP blasters are used the most although for in some specific cases railguns can be the way to go. In PVE you mostly use railguns since you don't WANT to get close and personal with a large number of rats, so you kill them from range.
Blasters do way more damage but severely lack in range, railsguns have long range but don't work up close. There's a time and place for both.

Railguns can be used for pvp and not just in fleet fights keep in mind that even though your damage is low compared to blasters you are doing damage long before your target can do damage to you.
Just keep in mind you will need a very good tank and a decent webber because when that blaster boat comes close to you all hell will break loose. |

On a Gallente T2 frigate I would use blasters - except for the Ares, which should not get in web or scram range. The damage of small rails is riduculous.

Yup. Taranis is a only viable option when it comes to Rails, just because that bugger can dish out 200dps with rails and that's almost the same that any other ceptor can max, with the bonus of a huge range. Blasteranis on the other hand....well it's all gravy that one :)
Ares is a pure tackler and It's quite rare that I even with any weapons on to it. Make it fast and use both scram and point on it. It's a ***** to get of your back. Stop whining. |
