I think this qualifies as a question. Anyway 4 days in with this character and I'm beginning to suffer from a common MMO problem of mine... Not liking my character. Well not as simple as that... Let me kind of explain my situation.
1. Aesthetically speaking I like Caldari ships the most. This is an Amarr and Amarr doesn't rate highly on my list since I find the designs to be... Not too 'interesting'. That and the Titan (not getting one but I feel like mentioning it) looks like a giant mushroom.
2. Weapon-wise I liked the concept of the Hybrid or Projectile weapons. Lasers are fun and all but... A Railgun or something sounds a lot more fun...
3. Character-wise I picked this race/bloodline mix because it was the first one I found that actually let me have long hair. I'm rather... Picky when it comes to my character - even in this game where it's just going to be a portrait. I've gone through all the non-Amarr race/bloodlines now and found a few more that fit my liking of hair but...
So erm. Really... What would you say about this? I tend to take looks pretty seriously but I'm running on a limited time schedule of about 2 months before I'll be, well, in boot camp and unable to play for a while and would really prefer using a character I'll like up until that time.
Should I just buckle down and bare it or does anyone have any advice or anything to throw out here? |

Your characters race has little or no bearing on what race of ship you can fly. Admittedly you'll get a few skills for your racial ships - but its seriously not all that much in the great scheme of things.
Just cross train to what ever appeals to you - Id suggest the Rokh as a long term goal: Caldari Rail-gun platform.

4 days? reroll if you're not happy. I went through a half-dozen characters before settling on this one, and he was an alt i made to get another character unstuck.
Or just cross train. Its all good really. |

I considered cross-training but I think that would take about... a few weeks or so to get me to where I am now I think.
I also forgot to mention I'm not too keen on the Amarr lore itself. I do like to RP when the mood strikes me and Amarr really... Doesn't fit me well at all. |

what exactly are you asking? You can either reroll or cross-train...it's up to you. A few weeks is no time at all really, in terms of training, and being able to fly multiple race's ships is a good thing anyways...gives you variety to choose from.
Or, as you mentioned, your guy is four days old and you can reroll. Almost nothing lost there.

Just really I'm conflicted is all. Since I value looks so much I really limit the races/bloodlines I'd want to play... Then when I factor in attributes and all...
Just have a hard time deciding what to do is all. 2 months I've realized is not really near enough time to really enjoy EVE

Choose the bloodline/race that has the look you like.
Your backstory and skills are entirely up to you.
You could be half Amarr, half Caldari, raised by Caldari, therefore you have some Amarr looks but you fly and prefer Caldari ships.
As for gameplay, the only impact the initial creation has is a few days worth of training in Amarr-specific skills.
So, past one week the only impact your bloodline will have is on your portrait. |

What you should also try to do is to look at the pros and cons of all the ships of every race. You don't like Amarr? Amarr have some of the hardest hitting midrange ships but it also requires you to work on the skills that makes Amarr ships shine in combat.
Also look at the pros and cons of projectile and hybrid weapons. You need to do more research on what is good and what is bad at the 4 factions ships before saying "I don't like that..."

As long as you have balanced attributes you can train for anything you want. If you want to use railguns, you don't have to go gallente, if you like being caldari you can train hybrid weapons ( start with soldier military profession) and use caldari rail ships. Later you can cross-train to gallente to get some of their nice ships, or you can return to train caldari missiles to run missions ( since they are the best for that job).
And about character portrait... when you become familiar with left menu , you can minimize it so it won't show character picture :) Although, you will still see it in EVEMon or character sheet / log in menu. |

Edited by: Katsu Tokinaga on 02/02/2009 08:35:51 Fill up your other 2 slots with different characters--check out Caldari, and I suggest even another race, such as Minmatar. If you're not dead set on a combat character, see how mining works out for one of the other alts. In my opinion, now is the time to see what you like and don't like, before you become too committed to one race/bloodline. I went through 3 or 4 characters before settling on this one...and before you do finally pick your next race/bloodline combo, should you decide to go that way, I really recommend you read Akita's thread: Guide & FAQ : New character creation.
Personally, I think there are too many Caldari pilots, and would prefer to train either a Minmatar military soldier character (for the shield and missle skills), or a Gallente military soldier character (for the hybrid guns skill) and cross train from there...Amarr is probably the most opposite race there is to Caldari--at least when looking at their skills. |

Often you'll be so far zoomed out, either to reduce sound volume or to get a better view, that you won't be noticing your ship anyway, so looks play second fiddle to statistics. And you can, and will, cross train so eventually you'll be flying all the stuff you like and it doesn't matter what race you started as.
Char portrait is something I'd reroll over if it was annoying me and I was only on my 4th day. |
