are the salvage tackles worth it on your dedicated salvage ship?
they seem to me to be counter productive (taking a good bit of salvage to make)
at what point is the return gonna pay off or should i even bother out rigging my bc with them.

They are mainly about time. Wether you need 4 cycles to salvage a wreck or 2 is already 12 seconds saved that you can invest in killing rats, rather than flying around waiting for wrecks to get salvaged. So yea, put salvage tackles on your salvager and don't use the destroyers to salvage; you can't operate 8 highs effective enough anyways and they got a tiny cargohold. I sugest you take a look at the exequror, *the amarr cruiser i cant remember atm* or hurricane. Fit MWD, lows with expanders and rest of the mids with capmods soy ou dont run out too soon. Replace the MWD with an AB if you are running 2 accounts and salvage while killing. |

Yes, they take some salvage to make, like all rigs, but they pay for themselves pretty quickly in time saved while salvaging. |

I highly recommend two rigs on a BC :)
The Destroyer is just fine for Salvaging Level 1, 2, & most level 3 missions. It is when you starting salvaging level 4's that it becomes annoying to have the smaller cargo space. |

I have three Salvage Tackle I rigs on my Dramiel, and yes, they are more than worth it.

Salvage rigs save time - one side effect of that is to allow your salvager to mount more tractors than salvagers and drag wrecks with you, so that you waste less time when no salvager is running, or when waiting at a wreck for a tractor to come free. |

I'm not sure I get this. Oh, I understand that the loot / salvage from a L4 can be quite extensive. What I don't see is how an extra 300-400 m3 is going to cover it.
The only advantage I see there is when you've got a mission that drops more than 600 m3 and less than 1000 m3. If it's less than 600, a destroyer will hold it. If it's more, a BC won't hold it.
I'm not seeing a lot of missions falling in that range for me personally. Most of mine are falling in the 1500 - 2000 m3 range for salvage + loot.
If you're gonna end up making more than one trip, it's faster to simply jetcan when cargo is full and come back in a hauler to pick it all up.
I like to keep the actual "salvage" (minus the truly awful "metal scraps") in the Destroyer and leave the loot in the jetcans.

My Hurricane has 2041m3 of cargo space.
And whoever up there said "Exequor"... i used one for a while. Sure it has a big hold, but 4 high slots sucks. I had better luck with a Stabber doing L3 loot/salvage. |

Seriously?
If your running your salvager after the mission fit a MWD on it.... See the post above for a better fit... In case you don't know the oversized ab kills your agility while having crap acceleration.

Yeah I tried this too but it completely f'd up what little agility my Hurricane had so I switched to a 10MN MWD. |

Edited by: Thorian Baalnorn on 04/02/2009 00:04:57 I run a moa for salvaging with rigs i built. so the rigs cost me nothing and they do help IMO.
I run a moa rather than the standard destoyer mainly because its faster. I use a T2 BS AB on it which gives it a nice speed boost(615 m/s with all expanders in lows), cap mods in the mids( no active boosters) and my lows vary but i usually run expanders. 3 salvagers 3 tractors in highs. I drop cans and pick up in indy if i need too. Note:since MWDS can only be used in certain conditions i prefer the oversized AB. yes it kills agility but im using tractors i dont need to be agile as i pull all my wrecks to me. thought the idea of having both( MWD and AB) is something i might experiment with.

Note: I bookmark every mission, turn it in, then get my loot/salvage ship and clean up. Probably you have more than one account if you're not doing this? Seems to be the "standard" method. |
