We all know it's a useless, pointless little barge that is outdone by mining cruisers (and possibly frigates too for that matter). Another problem with it is that it's only marginally useful for the time it takes to train for a retriever, which is only a couple of days. From that time on, you'll never fly one again.
Useless ships annoy me. I love game balance, so to fix this, I propose that the Procurer gains a 25m3 drone bay, and a 10% increase to mining yield to mining drones per level. This way, if your drone mining skills are better than your regular mining skills, it may still be a viable ship even after you can fly a Retriever. It'd certainly encourage people to stick with it a while longer

personally i think this barge should be given an ice or gas mining bonus too.... just to make it useful along with a bigger hold (2000m3) and bigger drone bay (15m3) and increase its sheild strength a bit cos it cant even tank against 0.6 rats |

There's already an ice mining specialist ship (Mackinaw). Further to that, tech 2 ships are the ones that specialise, tech 1 ships are 'general purpose'. Oh, and the Procurer can fit a medium shield extender quite easily, so it actually does better at buffer tanking than the Retriever. The bigger cargobay is a good idea though.

i have allways advocated turning the procurer into some kind of low sec ninja miner. reduce its sig a bit, so its harder to lock, up its agility and decrease the time it takes to hit warp speed. |

Once upon a time, we had a similar conversation.
Started out talking about making larger Mining Drones, like Medium and Heavy versions. Then we went on to discuss where they might be used effectively. And that sorta meandered into making changes to the Procurer/Skiff. Since the whole "Ooh, scary eruption" thing is lame, they could be made into serious Drone boats.
What would mine faster? A ship with a single Strip Miner... or a ship with a single Strip Miner and 5 Heavy Mining Drones each pulling in like 60m3? --- Don't take my ranting personally. I may just be arguing the topic, unless you're saying something stupid, and then I mean every word. "Players don't want Variety. They want THE BEST" |

The lowsec ninja miner is certainly an option, just giving the ship a role aside from it's current "My Very First Barge!" works for me. It's definitely small enough that it could have a 5 second warp time and not be unbalanced. I'd still like for it to have the 'goodly drone bay' the description goes on about tho..
