About 6 or 7 patches ago I was suddenly unable to play Eve when windowed due to excessive CPU usage.
Please see the following image for a short CPU usage graph under varying conditions when playing Eve windowed:
http://www.frothy.org/images/cpu.gif
1#: The CPU usage is at 100% while the Eve window remains "on top" or "in focus" and completely visible while I dock at a station.
#2: At this stage I brought my "My Documents" folder on top. As you can see as soon as Eve goes behind another window CPU usage drops to almost nominal levels. the small peak between the arrows shows an instance where I flicked the Eve window up for a split-second.
#3: I left the Eve window on top for a longer period which allowed CPU usage to rise to 100%, unfocused it, refocused it a few times, and then:
#4: This is when I undocked from the station, warped to a gate, and jumped through.
The blue line is showing disk usage. As you can see, disk usage is rare except for the small blip when undocking and loading the system, which is no doubt a sign of files being pulled from disk.
Another interesting point is the sharp yellow peak indicating a rather sharp increase and then decrease in memory usage - this happened when I quickly brought Eve in and out of focus.
What can be causing the 100% CPU usage when Eve is windowed? Does anyone else suffer from this problem?
I'm using Windows XP Pro, AthlonXP 3200+, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Cat 4.7 drivers, 1.5Gb of memory and am getting a bit annoyed at being unable to play on both accounts at once

Well, whatever it is on my, I've changed CPU, memory, and motherboard recently with no change to this problem.
The only thing that hasn't changed is the graphics card but that was still in use when the CPU usage was not an issue.
I wonder if any ATI Radeon graphics card users could post their experiences?

Thanks, mahhy.
If your results a bit more favourable I think I'll give the Omega drivers a go. I've tried them briefly before but thought the image quality left a lot to be desired.

I guess the Omega Drivers aren't a solution but I might give them a go anyway.

It doesn't just spike though.
It stays at 100% for the entirety of it's focus.

My current PC is a new upgrade from about 4 weeks ago.
Complete fresh installation of winXP Pro with all updates, SP2 included, all drivers are uptodate, no viruses, no adware, no spyware, no bloatware, and that is pretty much it.
I'm beginning to see that ATI Radeons are indeed a problem.
I think I'll throw an email at ATI Support to see what they recommend.

Emailed ATI Support so let's see if they can give me any pointers.

Originally by: Gariuys I'm not seeing the issue, I got a pretty crap comp, and it runs 2 acounts and a host of other crap just fine. Yes CPU usage is always at 100% or close to it, doesn't matter if i run 1 acount with nothing else, or 2 with a host of other stuff.
Where is the problem? EVE tries to get the most out of your CPU, and you complain?
I'd be worried if every application I ran requested 100% of my CPU resources.

Surely it is better if resource allocation is dynamic rather than greedy-static?
