I once read somewhere that u gain skillpoints by using mods or flying around in ships. The related skills would then slowly gain skillpoints. I was wondering if this is still the case or it has been removed from the game. If someone knows where to find the thread on this topic pls reply with link. Thnx. |

This used to be the case, however, after it was found abusable, the option was removed.
I don't think it'll be coming back

hmm too bad.
It would stimulate someone to play the game more, and give that player a small chance to get ahead of other players by playing alot. Now veteran players stay ahead, even if they loggon once a week to check their training.

Yea, but people would construct robots to be 24h/day online and gain skill points. No wonder they turned it off. _________________

Edited by: Feyd Darkholme on 02/08/2004 19:37:19 They should have just capped daily skill gain at a percentage or something... Typical developer knee-jerk overreaction though... I wonder why that is? You see the same behavior from developers of any MMOG you look at. They must be taught that in developer school. Very rarely do you see a developer that believes in the concept of "Work=Reward". ---------------

the day this comes back is the day eve turns into all the other crappy mmogs that i've never played because i dont want to have to splatter 999,999,999 lesser goblin minions with a blunt rusty knife, before i am qualified to wield a sharp rusty knife
it would also be the day i leave the game, and am replaced by thousands of adolescents with too much time on their hands |

Edited by: FuPhal on 03/08/2004 16:06:28 It is nice that there is no 'level grinding' in this game and that skills are learned purely by waiting long enough but sometimes i do think it would be nice to be rewarded for playing the game rather than just clicking on something and waiting for skills? : Maybe it would be nice if they let everyone have 1 alt that can be training by killing rats/producing items? that way the other 2 char slots on peoples accounts would actually be useful :/

nay nay nay... eve is different because you dont have to sacrifice your life to advance your character (ok so you do but not as much as other MMORPG's)

Yeah,i agree its nice not to have to spend hours grinding xp from whatever you wanna do but i think there should still be some rewards available for spending extra time :)
Like being able to train 1 character automatically and train a second from killing rats/producing goods etc ie: classic mmorpg stylee
I know itll never happen cos its far too much work for CCP but in an ideal world i think it would work :)

Your reward for extra time spent in game is called isk if a old player only logs on once a week to change skills he may have more skills than you but you have the cash to buy the cooler spaceship/guns and/or the supermodel girlfriend and stuff .
And that old system sucked you didnt have to be online for it to take effect I used to use power diags/cprs in all my ships when it was in affect and I got 3 lvls in that skill for free just cause my ships had em practicaly welded in. I think i also got some skills on my alt that i just stuck in a fully functional ship and didnt even log in for a few months. --------------------------------------
