Hello. I have been playing EVE for 16 days now. I have tried to find out more about research facilities and production in a factory.
I know factory or research slots can be rented in stations, with research slots being the hardest to find. Can anyone enlighten me on the subject of renting slots?
Also, how does research and production work? Do you only need to raise science skills to research in a research slot? What are you researching? Do you need to only use blueprints (original or copy) along with minerals and some equipment items purchased in a factory slot? How long does it take to research or produce items?
Thank you for info in advance =). I seem to enjoy mining and NPC rat clearing while mining, but I want to know more about reseacrh and production =). --------------------------------------------------- (\_/) Is this bunny or Picachu? (O.o) Beware the bunny w/BIG sharp teeth (< >) Zster's kills |

As far as production goes the first thing you need to do is train up the "production efficiency" skill. This will help you build items with much less minerals required. You'll need a Blue Print of course, lets say you go through alot of medium thorium ammo. In the long run it will be cheaper for you to build it yourself rather than buying off the market. So once you have the BP(blue print) then you can see the minerals needed to produce 1 run(run = 100 units of ammo). In this case you'll need: 32 mexallon, 1 noxium and 446 tritanium per run(assuming you have production efficency 5 ).
Now just find a station near you with factory slots, rent one, move the minerals & bp to that station and you'll be ready to go. Once you have the factory slot rented, click on it and choose install. Your BP will be visable, click on it and choose next, select the amount of runs you want, choose next. Then verify that everything is correct, select ok and then just wait for your ammo. There are other skills you can train to allow running multiple factory slots & faster building but this should get you started. As for the researching aspect i'll leave that to someone who would know what they are talking about
Hope thats helps , i know this aspect of the game was confusing to me when i began.

I usually run agent missions and check when i finish a mission. Skills for research:
Science - reduces copy time (5% per lvl) Metallurgy - reduces material level research time (5% per lvl) Research - reduces productivity level research time (5% per lvl)
The only skill you NEED is science 1, but i recommend training science and metallurgy to 4 or 5.
On the blueprint under the attributes tab, there is a number labeled "Research Material Time," "Research Productivity Time" and "Research Copy time" the number is in seconds, and does not factor in your skills. There is also a number labeled "Manufacturing Time," also in seconds, and also not factoring in your skills. material level affects the amount of minerals used during production. Heres a nice thread about ME : Linkage productivity level affects build time, but ive heard it doesnt do much, and is only worth researching for ammo Auction your items for isk, works sort of like ebay. |

Thx for the help =). I am still curious why production equipment is for sell on the market. Do you need certain production equipment to make certain items, or are the production equipment just trade goods? I saw robotic assembly equipment on the market the other day. --------------------------------------------------- (\_/) Is this bunny or Picachu? tech II stuff requires more than just the minerals, but i havent got into that yet

some is trade goods .. all trade goods can be seen by loading market , un clicking "active only" and then opening the trade goods tabs.
other items are used for the production of tech II items. i know next to nothing about them for no other reason that i dont have any tech II bp for no reason in particular :) -

like other ppl say those things on the market are for tech 2 BP's.
With the production, the best place to go is to here: Research & Production guide
