Incredibly disappointing interview. Whilst I am very excited for the expansion, it does sound like the Dev's are avoiding answering the key questions in this interview:
Originally by: "TenTonHammer" With March 10th and EVE's first ever retail expansion a little less than a month away, players have expressed concern that no elements of the Apocrypha expansion have yet made it to the test server. Do you feel you're on track with the expansion, and would you give us a brief update on the expansion's progress?
Originally by: "Zulupark" Apocrypha is one of the most amazing feats that CCP has ever undertaken. While Trinity was massive in scale, Apocrypha is truly a gargantuan effort. ItÆs a testament to the strength of our coffee, the wisdom of our producers and the calloused fingers of our development staff that weÆre on schedule. IÆm sure weÆll divulge some numbers on man-hours and gallons of sweat produced after launch, but right now we are in the thick of it. Our production schedule is already very demanding, even for an MMO company, but weÆre delivering a box in stores and the largest EVE Online expansion to date. All of it in a development cycle thatÆs a few months shorter than usual. Every portion of CCP is laser-focused on EVE Online and improving it. Our dev team has been in state of near constant flux between days of triumphant yelling and moments of sheer pressure-driven terror. ItÆs an exciting place to work.
No answer to the damned question. Whilst I appreciate you want more than a one word answer, in this case a simple "Yes(no) we are(n't) on schedule" would have been a good final line.
Originally by: "TenTonHammer" With what many feel is a destabilizing number of titans in the game, are purpose-built tech 3 "modular" ships (in conjunction with the many recent performance improvements) a bid to make significant fleet battles more "scattered about", more about attrition rather than might, and accessible to the common player? What would you say to a player that feels tech 3 sounds like more gathering and crafting work for less firepower?
Originally by: "Zulupark"
The idea behind Tech 3 ships is to allow players a wider degree of flexibility for their chosen vesselùallowing a full range of customizability to fit different roles more or less on the fly. Even fitting will be variable based on how you put your ship together. They will be quite powerful and therefore desirable. There wonÆt really be any more ôgathering and craftingö for the players flying them. The Tech 3 producers will be the ones heavily benefiting from the gold rush of intrepid explorers flying through wormholes and coming back with ancient materials for reverse-engineering and production. However, ships are usually made for one purposeùblowing up other ships. The ancient races in New Eden held that to be true, so the technology that goes into making Tech 3 is quite deadly.
Again, the part of the question (bolded above) is not answered and is quite deliberately avoided. I'm sure this was not the intention, but can we have an answer to the question here please Zulupark if you are reading this.

to be honest I don't understand what this is even asking, I don't think CCP did either.
Are they askig if tech 3 ships are a replacement for titans?

Nothing new in the interview, like some of the last devblogs. Marketing timings and secrecy FTW

Note the bolded, underlined part.
Seem a pretty clear answer.

The problem is that, when I think of "lasers", I connect it with "monochromatic" and "non-convergent" — neither of which are good words in relation to the task of giving us new fancy toys…
…then again, maybe I'm just over-thinking the simile. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

a laser by definition is a device which *focus's* light, light is made of photons and in its natural state these photons go absoloutly everywhere they can and in an infinate number of directions, a laser focus's those photons so that the all go in one direction.
A most appropriate simile indeed. |
