Edited by: tla s''hpyt on 06/02/2009 04:24:49 I'd say it's one of 3 reasons
1. A single player being able to do that much damage to a alliance is viewed as 'unfair' or broken game mechanics. I don't really agree with this.
2. There is still debate over weather this is a hacker getting into that guys account or a actual turncoat. Yes I know mitnal is claiming it's all him and his spy network, last I heared bob are claiming this guy is off on duty and wouldn't have done this. Tbh do you really trust the words the leader of a spy organisation who is known to use phsycological warfare, scams and break deals?
3. Rather than mixing things up and making more opportunities for new ppl in 0.0 this tips the balance of power towards goons (redswarm and friends) now being the controlling force of 0.0. rather than being the gbc vs redswarm it's gonna be redswarm owns 0.0 pay them for access and if they feel like it they may let you in, they may just kill you just for 'the lulz' though..... remember goons led jihad swarm into empire to gank carebears, I don't like the idea of them being the most powerful group in the game. |

he wasnt even a ceo. he was a vice president type. this should have never happened like this. beat bob, fine, i dont care but dont do it this way. not with POOR GAME MECHANICS. |

The corps are all fine.
CCP needs to nerf alliances, hard. They should more or less be slightly related collaborative efforts, not just 'super corperation'
sovereignty mechanic should just go away, permanently.
remove titans and moms from the game.
make jump in points in systems be 'random location', not the other side of the gate.
EVE is fixed, that will be 10 isk.

Yep nothing like being able to nerf your way back into power..rofl..
I am no fan of either the parties involved although I do appreciate that goons has an exteme sense of humor. I think it is high time that this happend.. and I would not want to see them nerf this part of the game.. but ENHANCE it so that spying is actually a skill..as is counter-spying.
I said it at the start of the main threadnaugt..
regardless of any loyalties anyone has.. as a simple gamer who loves games. I must hand it to the parties involved for this accomplishment. It shows us that even the small guy can take down the biggest of alliances. It equalizes the playing field for those who start today as it does for those who started years ago.
No MMO has this sort of wonderful balance. Where ones personal cunning .. rather than the hours of beating on a dragon.. can determine the outcome of a victory.

Looks like risk = reward on the alliance level too.
risk is one person has the power to topple if you don't keep them happy.
Reward, well now it will just be serious paranoia every direction you turn. Ahh the good ol days of listining to folk freak out about who is on ts. More then one alliance has crumbled from paranoia alone this time it just took that step out of it.
GG and carry on all. |

This.
I caught word of this on Shacknews first, and it amazed me how many comments there were from people who didn't play the game, but were suddenly interested in playing due to the fact that something of this scale could happen in game.

I think they would do good to remember that this was not caused by an infiltrator or a spy, it was caused by a change of heart.
You can suspect everyone but in the end it could be you that's the traitor

Heh WW1 did not start because of that. It was only a trigger event, perfect excuse for large powerblocks to go to war. Everything was prepared and ready for bloodshed long before... |

Quote: Why are so many people against this incredible event?
Because it is impossible to prevent. Contrary to a popular belief, not everyone plays eve to grief others. Not everyone here plays for the metagaming, some people just play for the internet spaceships.
The day we get alts in real life you may make real life comparisons. Now it is just completely risk free to do something like this. There is no reason not to do it, besides being a decent person, and we are kinda lacking them in eve. With alts they can just continue doing whatever they want. |

I like the part on the mp3 where he is logged in but for some inexplicable reason, cannot speak out loud.

also, mittens seems quite keen on insisting HE did this (bit of a mental slip perhaps? wouldn't be be proud to reitterate his new friend did this under his 'suggestion'.)
or maybe he really did do it. all by himself...
remember goon goal #1 from day 1. Ruin eve online

And what is the number 1 goal of many eve players? (many which are worshipped as semi-gods because they acted like friends and then backstabbed people). That goal is to ruin eve for everyone besides themselves. Now goons want to ruin it for everyone including themselves? I dont see the problem here. ---------------------------------------------

Wether or not you like what happened (depending on which side you're on) it's both worth a chuckle as a gasp in amazement.
To make most stuff happen like removing a character from a corp, unlocking a BPO or whatever takes a vote and/or a 'stasis period' of 24 hours, and for good reason. Being able to remove a corp from an alliance and then close the whole alliance is.... instantly and without any failsaves.
Whichever way you look at it, however much you might like what happened, it doesn't sound right as a game mechanic to have NO delays or defenses regarding actions like that. I'm hoping that CCP will act on what happened and introduce a majority vote+ 24 hour stasis period to actions like removing corps from an alliance.

yes - unscripted events are great yes - this is a Goon hit on BoB but - stealing the [bob] ticker is not killing their ships and stations, as the eve-radio Dianabolic interview points out: goons have not followes this pop with with a punch!
No - a single char kicking alliance corps and closing an alliance without vote or even a 24hr delay is ****
opinion - CCP needs change this mechcanic and I bet other alliances agree

Other than a temporary rise in t2 due to speculators raping the market like the always do during these events can you explain exactly how it impacts all of eve?
Your contradicting yourself.
You just stated how it affects ALL of EvE.
The t2 situation will be bigger than some expect, due to the recent loss of supply of extra moon mins from the pos 'sploit. The end of BoB will augment the current situation (over several months weve seen a steady rise of t2, check nighthawk and ishtar prices etc). Although it wont be huge, it will still have an effect.
Note that this may continue for a while as delve remains unstable, we may not see much relief untill alchemy hits with apocrypha imo...

Bob is my enemy but i'm not happy to see this in the least. I am no sworn PvPer or anything of the sort, but I do not think that one of the greatest alliances in the game should be brought low by something as cowardly and low as this.
This isn't a testiment to EVE, if anything this will drive more people away. People who have spent a lot of time on this game and make it what it is. BoB is not the enemy in the end, and we are all human beings. Scamming a bil is one thing, taking a LARGE alliance's assests like a backstabbing coward with no real reprocussions availiable is another.
Difference between EVE and RL? In RL I can find the person and break his knees and have my revenge, in EVE he can just dock, log, hide, be the coward he is. Just like all the scammers out there, cowards who need their knees broken.
