Edited by: Vegas Krindorf on 03/08/2004 13:03:46 First of all, apologies if this has already been mentioned, there is no obvious search facility on these forums.
I really feel that a tug class vessel is in order, for dragging cargo containers back from asteroid belts, as an example. The ship would be extremely slow during the actual tug process, perhaps only capable of very low warp, and have limited modules for shields and boosters etc; *no* weapon slots.
In addition to this, a new skill set would be required, perhaps each skill level would increase the weight of container that can be pulled, and could increase overall tug speed by a few %.
Would be useful for corporations who are investing a lot of time in mining. You can even open this up so additional objects could be dragged.
Just a thought, I welcome criticism.

Damn i thought you were going to ask for something usful like a tug move multple ships, but sec cans? Your indies can do that just fine. Standard Mammoth can do 4 at a time. and a customised Iteron V (i think thats the name) can do 8 i hear.

I don't think it is a bad idea. Just not sure how usefull it would be. most time one or two indies can keep up with twice the number of miners.
as for moving secure cans. it is a not bad idea if it would let you move alot more cans than even a fully expanded mk5, (btw full expanders makes a mk VERY slow, <80m/s) but if a tug could latch onto a sec can and tow it to a station and when they dock they all go into the main hanger. i would limit it to sec cans owned by the corp and even then the hauler couldn't open the cans, hust move them.

Okay, wasn't the best example....
Tugging ships is a definate, perhaps the Tug class could be used alongside the new structures in Shiva?

Yes not bad at all the tug can only move the cans, but not open them or anchor them. And move ships, but cant go from one ship to the other out of station...

I like the idea, but I can't think of a way to implement it thats isn't "they can move as much as an indy but aren't slow when not carrying anything"
