[1] Now, I have not thought this out as well as I usually do before posting ideas to a forum, but, I think tractor beams would be handy, or grappling hook turrets. So i can tow cargo pods from a mining area to one location for the indys to come and get, or, better yet, to be able to tow my ships from base to base so I dont have to spend two hours moving three or four ships a across a region. ok, have at it, pick it apart. :P |

[3] Tractor beams for moving ships around would have to be pretty hefty... Requirements should be more than a MWD. I like the idea though. It could add a whole other level for Electronic Warfare. You just finished mining off all the Pyroxeres from a roid belt and you are about to return to the nearest station with the cargo container secured via tractor beam. You are waiting for the tractor beam to get to full power so you can initiate warp when all of a sudden 3 pirate cruisers warp into the belt, hit you with a tractor beam distablizer and a warp suppression field, they then lock tractor beams onto you and drag your ship back to their base and do whatever they might do with you. Sounds like tons of fun ^_^ "The sky above the port was the color of a television, tuned to a dead channel." |

[5] well, what I was thinking was, in order to keep indys useful that you should not be able to pull cargo through warp or jumps, although you can pull ships. Figure that if something is warp capable to begin with, it will be fine. Also, i was thinking that, to keep small frigs from towing cruisers en masse, that the speed should be significantly reduced the more of a mass difference there is between the ships. so, a cruiser towing a frigate , no problem, maybe 25% reduction in speed for each frig towed (with a skill needed to train of course), while a frigate trying to tow a cruiser would yield a 75% reduction in speed. an indy towing a cruiser, or a cruiser towing an indy and it would be a 40% reduction in speed (not 50% because it would be nice to be able to tow two cruisers with an indy). this is just an example, and of course you would want to take into consideration the mass of each. so, if you try to tow a Battleship with a newbie frig then you will be creeping along at 5m/s, kinda like modern tug boats. and yes, there could be some interesting tactical situations arising from this, though I would make it very hard to forcibly tow someone against their will, have a formula that calculates tractor beam power to engine thrust ratios or something. if your beam is stronger than the engine thrust, you win...adds value to AB's. |

[9] I'd suggest that industrials actually get a module (they have very high CPU, remember?) that allows them to tow better. The Indy strikes me as a tug-type ship due to the nature of the name implying work-horse of insustry. [14] What they are talking about are tractors that can pull ships though, which we don't yet have afaik. I like the speed reduction idea, and you could allow them to jump and warp with ships in tow, but make the cap requirement for the relative warp bubble proportional. So for an industrial to tug a couple of ships across a large system it'd take 3 or 4 times, maybe less with skills. thoughts? (even though it's an old thread) ---------------------------------------- |

[15] You'd prob be better asking for a minture version of a carrier, since the carrier can scoop ships up and so forth. My Comments in no way reflect my corp or alliance |
