It would be nice to see EVE help some of the smaller corps and even individuals achieve some sort experience those that choose to join mega corps have. Not all players have, or want a big corp or even want to belong to a corp.
Suggestion: Possible NPC miners for hire (and the ability to assign mining operations and waypoints). The PC's can then concentrate on protection of their hirelings.
Also the possibility of NPC wingmen. Not many, but that can be for hire.

One more thing on the topic of NPC's. How about possible NPC ship officers that add not only bonuses (such as a science officer for the explorer using scanners) but also a little communication.
Example, there is a % chance the NPC (science officer) finds an abandoned station and a % chance he can lock in close enough for a jump. The NPC actually has a small image and message bar but even better would be real speech. It basically adds bonuses like adding modules, but requires upkeep in the sense of a "salary".
Also, NPC's of different skill levels will be available for the appropriate cost. In each station, those NPC's available for hire will post their "resume's" and salary requirements.
Each ship class can hold different numbers of ships officers. Example: Frigates = 1 officer, battleships = 5 officers. Also, in Shiva , player owned structures can have officers.

sorry, but all i have to say about this is:
if you want help, join a corp or get some friends who will help you.
EVE is a MMORPG, not some single player thing.
my 2 cents...

Yeah, whatever. 
However the second post was not so anti teamwork as much as added role play, such as ships officers. Not much difference between two modules any more than between a module or an officer, other than immersion into the game.
After all, who has ever seen a full size battleship run by one pilot?
