We're busy with a lot of post tournament stuff, including getting results ready and so on, as well as making sure Tournament Cat is happy in his green room with only brown M&Ms and mineral water served at precisely 4 degrees celcius.
But while we're doing this, I'd just like to give a HUGE shoutout to all of our competitors. I felt that this alliance tournament really did showcase some amazing setups, and show just why Eve is so interesting and dynamic, as well as show just what some serious pilot skills can do in an internet spaceship.
Congratulations to Pandemic Legion and extremely well done to RUR also, the final was awesome.
We'll have some stats and updates out for you today or tomorrow.

It was fantastic fun. I was also very impressed that it remained on scheduel for the whole thing which must have been no mean feat.

Thanks CCP Claw. It was a lot of fun. I think this is probably one of the best tournaments to watch, actually. The rules made for fast, exciting and well fought matches. -----

Thank you for a very enjoyable tournament, both to participate in and to watch, not least because of the new rules that make for more dynamic and exciting fights then previous versions.

Best tournament ever!
The finals were so thrilling.. I was biting my nails all day long, I actually didn't have anything left to chew on for the final match, which again, was so stunnung an thrilling, and had so many turning points where we were sitting here saying "PL's gonna win this, no RUR's gonna win this, OOH, PL's gonna win this.."
And thanks for bringing us tournament kitteh and KE-TUN :)
I hope you keep the format, and I hope we see some hero structure tanking next time :) |

Tnx for the fun, it was a great tourny.
Personaly i find the format much better then the prewious one. And also with no remote rep it s much more fun to see ships blowing up also ppl comming with intresting setups.
Maybe for the next time you can allow more alliences to get in.

I have to say, this was to best tourney so far, rules were great, the RR love was almost zero (xept drones), most fights were ended in less than 10 mins, few were longer, the commentary on both Qualifying round and these last 2 days of ellimination rounnds have been great (xept some wrong callings ;P) CCP/E-R and so on have done a great job getting it all to work...
SHOUTOUTS to all, and Congrats Pathetic Legion, R.U.R. and so on so forth :D

I think the single biggest thing that needs improving from a watchability perspective is some kind of EW indicator icons for the camera ship. The commentators do a decent job of describing drone types and ship ranges and stuff but they always seem to be making wild guesses about the bigger picture when it comes to electronic warfare. The effects just aren't visible enough (and ECM has none). There's a few other things could be improved in the arena/camera system generally, I really hope it can get some attention before the next time.
Otherwised the tournie has definetely matured into a very polished event. Going for the single weekend EVETV format didn't take anything away at all imo. If anything it made the final weekend more special and avoided all the low-quality repetitive padding that used to go on, made for a higher density of dev interviews etc...
Don't make it so long til the next one pleease _

Honestly, CCP should give itself a pat on the back tonight. Not only was the concurrent online record broken on Tranquillity, but the quality EVE TV coverage attracted record viewers and the participating alliances showed just how much EVE has to offer, indeed. There were some really engaging matches, and in between some great programming on EVE TV, thanks for all of the featurettes you filmed, to CCP Soundwave for being a great host and all the devs who dropped by to tell us about the future of EVE.
Easily the best tournament for spectators so far, a great job from everyone who made it happen.

Congratulations CCP, competitors, volunteers and everyone else that made this possible.
The fact that something like this is done in Eve speaks volumes about the kind of game we all play, community we have and the people that make it all possible. You all rock, I shall now start waiting in anticipation for AT7

Just as a suggestion, would it be possible to have the official CCP video maker create a sort of recap show out of all the footage; such as the likes of a normal sports show? |

If someone does this - make sure to get a shot of the Nighthawk ramming the Abaddon - A year from now, that ending to a match will likely be one of the most remembered. |

Nice work with the tourney Claw, says something really good when so many different setups are fielded and so many different setups do well. Was clear that in the end pilot skill and good FCing was a serious factor in a lot of the outcomes which has to be how it should be.
Lot of work for you and the tourney team but its a great annual event that 1/2 of eve talks about for the whole tourney period. |

Thank you for all the kind words.
A lot of work goes into making the tournament happen, but rest assured that when the fights start, it is well worth it. I had an amazing time, mostly due to the great community we have.
Thank you for tuning in, without you, there would be no tournament. |

Thank you all for giving us the tourney back. I feel the (considerable) investment from CCP is worth it for CCP, the value of having such a display of force should be felt in the number of accounts later on. I know I will be directing quite a few people to the youtube channels to witness what I do for a hobby (the ccp channels, not the cough*personal*cough channels).
There is room for a little improvement as always, but even not having the qualifiers live worked out ok I suppose. Kudos to the radio teams for making it possible. Not a fan of the youtube vids in general and even the HD ones seem .. well.. lacking, but heck it's so much fun watching them, I'll take 'em any way they come.
The rules, I loved em. Obviously it's always a delicate balance, but leaving out faction mods and implants and serious RR, putting in rigs and tweaking the points has worked out quite well imho.
The live coverage of the final weekend also gave us people who couldn't come to fanfest access to some of the hilarious ****zle that has been going on there, and it was a great way to introduce the new uber expansion (and whine biatch and moan about right away).
Love it, would watch again. And again. And possibly a third time. (Loyal listener/watcher since the first tourney).

Edited by: InnerDrive on 09/02/2009 12:37:23 The tournament rocked , shame we did not get a spot because our executor forgot to pay the entry fee.
Somehow this stuff gotta improve and allow for others to be abble to do the sign up/paying the entry fee aswell and not just one guy with a wife thats gone all weekend.
Really badly wanted to be in it and preperations for it were underway as soon as the annoucement was made there was going to be a 6th.
PS. when will PL announce where the monument is going to be at? |

CCP did a great job, i think the rules were good, (could use a bigger arena and allow warping within it, make tools to allow this pls) Stream wasn't quite good enough for me at least, when the traffic started getting heavier it pretty much stopped working even on low quality (alternate too, but dunno how many others had problems with it)
format could use some work, not really a fan of only having 2 matches in qualifiers, signup process isn't very good and FW teams could've used more time to prepare prizes were pathetic, no need to be so cheap and unoriginal about it
props to charlie, stevie, mindstar, claw and soundwave - all did a great job during the tourney itself, particularly impressed with the speed and quality with which matches got put up on youtube and the communication with community in general ISD reporters were also really good Videos provided by CCP were also really cool, i'm sure that'll help with recruitment
i thought crovan was horrible on the couch and should never return, rest of the commentators/experts were good
here's hoping we won't have to wait as long for the next one

i thought that considering ccp are not professional tv people they did a brilliant job. soundwave grew in confidence as the time wore on and became quite adept at steering the interviewees when they got too verbose. eddz [sp?] was the most interesting of the commentators/experts and ego considered, made some very good salient points. i had to laugh when my gf asked who the geek was in the benny hat. i asked her why she said that and she replied, oh come on, it's bloody obvious. he's wearing tracksuit trousers, a benny hat with flames on it and he's got skinny arms.
all the commentators did a grand job [believe me, it's NOT easy commentating on anything, especially when there is no definitive time to fill, and knowing there's a limit doesn't help]. the vide clips ccp did were amusing and to cap it all the competitors were all magnificent.
only criticism i have is steviesg. i know you know you're one girl amongst thousands of predominantly gamer-lads, but do you really have to lay the inuendo on so thick? that kinda' spoiled it for me. i was expecting you to focus on your knowledge instead of your sexuality.
all in all i felt proud to be part of a community that knows how to entertain.
