The thing is, Eve is not one game, its two
1 Industry for the "carebears": They just enjoy manufacturing and playing the market, seeing how much isk they can accumulate, so anything that might lose them isk (low sec/0.0), is obvioulsy something to be shied away from.
2 Fighting - whether this be small gang/solo combat or fleet fights/ganking. These PvPers either enjoy trying out combat skills and fits or accumulating kill mails. They have no interest in industry whatsoever, and may use the game-card mechanic to obtain isk for new ships when they need to (unless they have old industry alts aka BPO holders, or are in a communistic Corp or Alliance set up, or are prepared to graft out the isk by ratting when they have to).
So don't knock yourself out brooding about care-bears, they are simply not playing the same game you are.

EvE is what you make it.. Personally I do both of those things. One feeds the other..

The real power rests in using every aspect of the game.. not whining because your 1 dimensional character can only fight, mine, or research.. which is why I don't use an Alt..I did build one, cause I thought I might do a picture swap.
20% of EvE is skills, 29% is knowing how to fit a ship and 51% is being smarter than the competition.. be it trade, manufacturing or fighting.

I would be up for developing a massive carebear fleet willing to raid lowsec.
I bet we could crash a node better than goons :)
