Hi there.
Currently i used to play, with a MSI-G4-Ti 4200VTD8X
Its currently a year or so... i overclocked it a bit too much. The RAM is dmg and does not refresh anymore.
SO im thinking about the pro and contras (Nvidia <> ATi)
The dealer told me i should get a ATI 9600Pro with 128MB but 256BIT... otherwise i used to game with NVidia. Its like Windows stepping to Linux isnt it?
I got with that NVIDiA card a 3D-Mark 2001 like 12K Points without oclocking. with oclocking i got the 14K Points.
Im using AMD, N-Force Chipset on da Board...
AND YES IM A ALT ;)

If you want to play eve using dualscreen, then the FX5900 is the better choice. As for performance, the 9800 Pro is better..

I got a Geforce 5900, really love it. However I am a big Ati and would love a Ati 9800Pro or XT, at then end of the day its personal preference.
If you want to try something new Ati 9800, however if you want nvidia upgrade go for the Geforce FX5950.

im using a 9800 XT from ATI. lovely card :D i used to be an Nvidia fan but since they seemingly gave up a few years back ATI gained the lead and still has it (X800 is kicking the 6900s arse)
i would say ATI all the way now, 9800XT if you can get one (tho apparently some of the pros used the XT chip O.o) if you have LOADS to spend then get the X800 and give it to me :P

I would go for a 9800 pro, they are pretty cheap to buy now, can be overclocked to XT speeds if required and give very good performance in all current games.
If your feeling flush then you can go for either of the new generation of cards, the Nvidia 6800's or the Ati X800's, both are good cards and are pretty evenly matched, although Im leaning towards the Nvidia 6800 series, due to its extra features and Shader model 3.0 support.

It works very nicely indeed. I'm starting to think that a lot of EVE lag is due to client machine specs - the more horsepower you can apply to the problem of tracking all those missiles and drones in a large battle the faster your response time will be.
Of course I could be wrong and just justifying my nice fat PC to myself :)

I'm using a normal 6800; less pipelines, only 128mb. Works like a dream getting good framerates in High Eyecandy mode at 1280 x 1024. It's also fairly quiet, doesn't use alot of power and thus doesn't need too much cooling. Together with the big fan placed on it, it makes for a fairly quiet card.
nVidia is also releasing a 6600 GT for about 200 EUR. Sadly it's pci express only at this stage. But first benchmarks suggest the card is very close to a regular 6800 (like mine) which cost 300+ EURO. As always with computer hardware, something better, cheaper and more sexy is always around the corner

im using a 6800gt OC
the best vid card under $200 is defineatly the 9600xt, you can prob find it for like 140-160 at newegg

It's all about budget really. I own a 9600XT 256mb, it's cheap and powerful enough. However the guys are right if you can stretch to a now cheap 9800 Pro/XT it's well well worth it. They are still very powerful and leave a 9600 for dust.
